Not a Joke

Hello hello!

April has arrived and I thought you'd make a few brief updates on the state of stuff.

So, Mad Scribe magazine, which publishes my litRPG novella "Hilda Finds a Home" is available in all the best stores, including on Amazon. If you're into RPGs, you should definitely give it a look, it's got some great stuff in there!

Merciless Mermaids: Tails from the Deep is now available for pre-order on Amazon. I have a fantasy noir story about the mermaid mafia in there and, honestly, it's one of the most fun things I've ever worked on. This anthology will be coming out this summer and I couldn't be more excited!

And speaking of mermaids, I'm currently working on a fantasy hardboiled detective story. Thinks Philip Marlowe but with mermaids. Really tough mermaids.

The mermaids in this novel are all female. The way they reproduce is they spawn their eggs in sacred caverns beneath the waves, then a mysterious being or beings fertilizes each egg in a different way, resulting in an incredibly diverse species.

You know how you can cross a corgi with any kind of dog and basically get a corgi-shaped version of this dog? So my gals are the same except it's mermaids and any kind of marine animal.

Here are some mermaid races I'm currently brainstorming. Can you guess which kind of animal each race is inspired by?

Serpentines: Sleek assassins with a shady reputation and a mortal kiss.

Clawmaids: Lightning-fast strikers with razor-sharp claws who make up the bulk of mermaid enforcers.

Greatfins: Charismatic leaders with beautiful but deadly fins.

Airchanters: Traditional mermaids who can breathe air and speak to humans, often the target of anti-human prejudice among their own kind.

Longshells: Wise and slow nannies and rememberers of the old ways. Rarely leave the school but will fight to the death to defend the fledgelings.

Chromids: Color-changing explorers who can fit into any crevice and blind foes with their sticky ink.

Luminescers: Bioluminescent wretches who are often bullied for their apparent softness and uselessness.

Currentweavers: Powerful mermaids who can communicate through electroreception and have a reputation for insanity and prophecy (hard to tell which is which).

Thundercloaks: Brooding elitists who can create powerful electric shocks and fly briefly above the sea. They are the main competition in power and prestige to the Greatfins.

So, what do you think? Do you have suggestions for mermaid races based on your favorite marine animals? There's always room for more cool mermaids under the sea :)

Thank you for reading!

Bye!
