For my Saturday update this week, I want to ask you a question.
Don't worry, it's not a quiz!
Let me tell you a short story first. 😀
Today I was invited by our friends from the Catholic Faith Defenders (CFD) to share about defending the faith clearly without being preachy.
In the two-hour talk with Q&A, I shared anecdotes and realizations about my conversion story and how we started Unboxing Catholicism.
I talked about you since you're a part of our growing community! 🥰
In essence, the discussion revolved around the concepts and skills involved in the practice of “New Evangelization”.
When no one understood JP2
This phrase was first mentioned by St. John Paul II in a field in Nowa Hutta, Poland on June 1979. That field was supposed to be a “communist model of an ideal workers' town.”
The great saint called for a “new evangelization in a new millennium.”
It didn't make it to the headlines because no one understood it back then.
JP2 Started Something New
Then in 1983, the great pope went to the Latin American Bishops Conference in Haiti and declared to the whole world: “The commemoration of... evangelization will gain its full energy if it is a commitment not to re-evangelize, but to a New Evangelization, new in its ardor, methods, and expression.”
JP2 declared that and pointed to the 500th anniversary of Christianity in the American continent.
Now as we celebrate our 500th Year of Christianity in the Philippines, I can't help but reflect on how our country has been making this papal call a daily reality.
While giving the talk earlier, I was also inspired to ask you, "How do you live the call for New Evangelization in your personal life?"
