A Mother’s Reflection: ‘Kedu ihe ha ga echeta’ (‘What Will They Remember?”)

Last week, I was chatting with one parent who said something that stood out for me:

“Coach Nonny, I can buy them toys and tablets…but will they remember any of that in 10 years?” And she is right.

Our children won’t remember the gadgets, but they will remember the language you spoke, the culture you lived, and the identity you planted today!

Every “Kedu,” “Bịa rie nri,” that bedtime story in Igbo…

These are seeds we plant that grow into lifelong confidence.

Inside the Umuoma Community

Spotlight Stars Corner

Every week, we celebrate our Ugo Umuoma, children shining through their effort and growth. This week

Our children are learning how to introduce themselves — Aha m bụ… (My name is...), Ebi m na… (I live in...), Ihe na-amasị m bụ… (My favorite thing is...).

Small sentences, but big confidence! We are taking it a notch further to talk about their families, possessions, and aspirations ending it as a beautiful composition

Children’s Corner(The Nta Akuko Club Has Begun!):

Our children stepped into their very first storytelling adventure inside The Nta Akụkọ Club, Umuoma Igbo’s own Children’s News & Story Corner. Our young broadcasters reported global, national, and academy news, speaking Igbo with confidence and pride! Every Friday, we showcase their short videos and creative work one of the most inspiring moments of our week. You’ll love seeing their joy!

Cultural Focus:

After our fun Abacha Challenge, we’re moving into Igbo Dressing Week!

The kids will learn to describe their outfits in Igbo and share what traditional clothing means to them.

“Eme ngwa ngwa, emeghalụ ọdachi” means make hay while the sun shines. A gentle reminder to act on time and not delay what truly matters.

This week, try saying “Eme ngwa ngwa, emeghalụ ọdachi” to your child when you want to encourage responsibility and action

With love,

Coach Nonny
