Ndewo ,
This week, the Academy officially kicked off, and something beautiful happened.
We asked the children one simple question:
“What are you most excited to learn here?”
The answers? Pure gold.
One child said, proudly and without hesitation:
“Achọrọ m ịmụ esi ofe akwu na ukwa.”
(I want to learn how to cook ofe akwu and ukwa.)
Another said:
“I want to speak Igbo without being shy.”
Another smiled and said:
“I want to understand Igbo when my parents speak.”
Over 45 children on board, with excitement, curiosity, and confidence already forming.
This is what happens when children are given permission to belong.
Language becomes fun and inviting.
This Academy is not about rushing children to fluency.
It’s about awakening interest, pride, and joy.
And here’s the quiet truth:
When children are excited to learn their language and culture, you don’t need to push them.
You simply guide them.
That’s the work we’ve begun.
This is what you’re seeing.
This is the moment.
Doors are officially closed for this cohort, but stay tuned for what’s next
Learning Corner:
Ejiro ofe eme mmanya.
Phonetic: Eh-jee-roh oh-feh eh-meh m-mahn-yah
Literal translation: “Soup is not used to make wine.”
Meaning: Success requires using the right tools and strategies for the task at hand.
In other words, every outcome requires the right process. You don’t preserve language with wishful thinking, nor build identity by accident.
