Time to stop stressing over urgency

Dear ,
It's time to stop stressing over urgency which what we're doing when we're worrying about how to get people to buy from us sooner than later.
Urgency - particularly how to 'create' it in other people - is a big (big) part of what we're all taught out in sales land.
Urgency is all about making money on a time table, the sooner the better.
It's why websites have big, flashy BUY NOW buttons, why we are told to tell people that there are a limited number of spots (even when there aren't), or told that making things available for a limited time only is the right thing to do.
All of these things are strategies that are meant to convince people to buy sooner, faster, more.
And for me?
None of them feel good. They never did. And I have always struggled with this part of business.
This year, I figured out why.
Urgency, and all the things we are taught to do to create it - is built on the assumption that people need to be CONVINCED to buy from me sooner, faster, more.
And that's not something I choose to believe in for my business, and it's not something YOU have to choose in yours.
Me working like crazy to manufacture urgency in other people - buy telling them time is short, by telling them sports are scarce, by telling them that now is the only option - is anti-trust.
Is it true that there are actually limited seats? Sure.
Is it true that in many cases sooner is better than later? Yes.
So is there room for urgency? Of course.
But do I need to manipulate it? Manufacture it? Create it in order for my business to grow and thrive on a random time table?
N.O.
And neither do you.
Instead of manufacturing urgency, and spending time thinking about HOW to get people to buy sooner, faster, more, I would propose this:
Spend your time inviting people into your world, into your work, and into what you help people do.
And then TRUST THEM to buy from you.
Trust yourself to make a compelling case without needing to generate urgency FOR someone else.
Trust your people to know when then need you and to reach out and buy when it is time.
Seriously. How much time would you save if you just focused on YOUR part - inviting from a grounded, connected place - and then let the rest work? (because it will, it does)
Probably a LOT of time, and twice as much mental energy.
No more 'how am I going to make this go faster?'. No more 'what do I have to say to get them to buy NOW?'. No more 'How can I create more urgency?'
Instead, you'd have 'if I want to move faster, I can invite more'. And that's it.
You can let the urgency piece work itself out.
I'm doing the same.
Warmly,
Sara
Ps. If you'd like to learn to invite more and manufacture urgency less; if you'd like to learn to trust more and overthink less; if you'd like to learn to GO faster by just doing YOUR part and trusting the rest... I'm here for you, ready to coach you through this, when you are ready to work with me.
I trust you to know when the time is right. I trust you to know that waiting longer isn't helping. And I trust you to reach out when you need me.
If now's the time, just hit reply, and let's talk about it. And if it's not, I trust you to know that too.
