One post - one call - one client

I had a thing happen last week in business that we all feel like SHOULD happen all the time and just... doesn't.
I made a post on TikTok (you can see it here, truly it's not vastly different from what I'm doing day in, day out there...).
A total stranger saw it, and it compelled her to book a call.
And then two days later she became a 1:1 coaching client. She said 'I think I was the first person to even SEE the video - it had 0 views when I saw it, and I knew it was meant for ME.'
Crazy, right? Also amazing. And crazy.
To give this some (much needed) context, I can count the number of times this has happened to me as a business owner on 2 fingers. Total. I have had one other case where a stranger became a client from a post with this clear straight line within days of the post in 5 years.
Maybe this makes me a marketing failure, but really? I don't think so.
I am telling you this story for exactly the opposite reason that I think most coaches would tell you this story.
This didn't work because I made the perfect post. There's no such thing.
This didn't work because I'm a genius marketer. I'm definitely not.
And this didn't work because I have some perfect 14 step system that I'm now going to try to sell you so that you too can turn strangers into clients in less than 3 days. Nope nope and nope.
Friends.
I am telling about this new client because what happened last week was both fabulous and WEIRD *even thought* we really do think that this (one post - one call - one client) is how getting new clients is supposed to work.
It was not normal.
Which begs the question - then, what's normal?
What's normal is people responding to accumulated content over time.
What's normal is someone who knows you coming closer and closer because of your continued showing up and giving and being useful and then becoming a client and buying from you.
What's normal is someone YOU know already deciding they trust you to be what they need - even when they aren't sure exactly what they need - because they have enough experience with you and what you do in a low stakes way that they are willing to invest.
THAT'S normal.
THAT'S the process I see in my business and in allllll the other businesses I see day in and day out. It's the process I follow as a buyer too.
And this normal takes both time (even though sometimes it's fast) AND showing up.
Which is ACTUALLY the trick in all of this.
I had one post that 'worked' - out of 1000s of pieces of content in 5 years.
One post that created a directly line from me to her.
But I have 1000s of other posts that have created way (way) more clients over time, because I show up and give again and again and again.
So, for you? Today?
Show up. Say something. ANYTHING. Share. Give.
Last week I did not remotely post that TikTok video thinking 'this is the one, I've cracked the code'.
[I mean, usually when I think a post is AMAZING it's the last thing people respond to, you know how that goes...]
But I showed up. I did it imperfectly, as always. And it made a difference.
Which is all we can do on any given day.
Which is YOUR job today.
So whatever that thing is that you haven't said and shared?
In whatever format you're avoiding (I'm looking at you my video-avoiding friends)?
Take 5 minutes and go. do. the. thing.
Because maybe it will be the one --- and even if it's not it's ONE of the bricks on the road you're building to a successful business, every damn time you show up.
