My favorite way to think about marketing...

Hey there !

There are 240 humans in my Facebook group, Teachers in Business.

When they each joined, one of the questions they got asked in FB was about their biggest business struggle.

And of those 240 people, at least 150 mentioned 'marketing' in some way, shape, or form.

In the business world we all think and talk a LOT about marketing.

What's interesting for me is that I almost NEVER think about my marketing as 'marketing'.

Thinking about 'marketing' and making a 'marketing plan' and 'learning to market' all feels just kind of awful to me.

I went to school to be a teacher. I never took a business class or a marketing class.

So the thought that 'I need to know HOW to market' feels like a LOT of pressure.

Especially because I want my business to WORK and GROW.

[Sound familiar?]

But here's what I know.

I may not have learned marketing in school, but I know that as a teacher I am REALLY good at sharing, connecting, teaching, inviting, asking, offering, giving, and being totally myself while I'm doing it.

THAT feels good.

And it turns out that those things are ALL ALSO marketing.

So, here's the thing.

My favorite way to think about marketing is to NOT think about it as marketing.

Instead, I think about 'marketing' as all the things it really is - underneath that formal exterior - and it turns out they are ALL things that I LOVE to do...

Like:

  • Sharing
  • Connecting
  • Teaching
  • Inviting
  • Asking
  • Offering
  • Giving
  • Being ME

When I am doing any or all of these things, I AM marketing.

When I am doing these things I'm growing my business.

I don't need a marketing class to tell me how to show up and share.

I don't need a marketing book to show me how to connect with humans.

I don't need a marketing guru to tell me how to teach, invite, ask a question, offer, give, or be me.

I'm a teacher. I know how to do all that stuff already.

And, guess what?

SO. DO. YOU.

Today I propose this:

What if you could stop stressing about 'marketing'?

What if you focused on showing up and doing the stuff you're already really freaking good at, especially the stuff that connects to and helps other people?

What if you decided to TRUST that doing those things that help you relate and connect ARE marketing, and that doing them consistently would grow your business? (*they are and it will*)

Wouldn't it all just FEEL so much better?

What if it's possible that your marketing could be a lot more fun (and effective) if you STOPPED trying to market like a business dude and STARTED marketing like a teacher?

(it is!)

If this resonates with you, hit reply and tell me what marketing like a teacher looks like FOR YOU, or what you WANT it to look like for you.

Because you're the teacher AND the business owner and YOU get to decide :).

Here's to a new way to think about marketing.

Warmly,

Sara

PS. If this all SOUNDS great but you're looking around thinking 'cool, but HOW do I actually do this?', I can help.

In the Charting Business Success small group coaching program I teach my clients to market as THEMSELVES (and they're TEACHERS like you).

Want to learn to market in a way that is less 'marketing' and more YOU?

It's simple to learn, probably WAY more fun than what you're doing now, and I can teach you how.

To join the group, hit reply and say 'I'm ready to talk about Charting Business Success.' :)
