A funny story
I didn't even realize this until 11:49 pm on Friday, 14th of June.
And when I did…
The reality of why "it" became a habit dawned on me and why I mostly do it absentmindedly these days.
Wanna know what I'm talking about?
Follow me.
,
I was about to retreat to bed on Friday…
Until sleep decided to be wicked and didn't come to me.
So, I went to my WhatsApp to check statuses (that was the main goal, I wasn't there to chat)
After checking about 2 people's statuses, I came across one of my brothers in my fellowship status.
He took a picture of a note, but in the note, he drew using a particular shape to show what he was feeling.
Imagine drawing various shapes together…
But instead of shapes, picture a cell (biology students, animal cell)...
Yes, you Gerrit!?
In the midst of this multiple cells drawn again and again, there's a sketch to indicate a human,
After that, up above the human and the diagram (the cells) in the book, he wrote, "I want to scream"
Then when he posted the picture, the caption reads:
"Making something to reflect this mind space... Sometimes words are not enough... 1 hour in...... It's nostalgic like many things worrying us... Old and familiar"
Then after thinking about the words he wrote
It dawned on me that…
I do this exact same thing.
Wait! I'm not talking about adding captions
Who doesn't add captions to their pictures in this age?
Neither am I talking about the diagram, lol.
What I'm talking about exactly is…
Doodling
Yes! D.O.O.D.L.I.N.G
He was basically doodling and the outcome produced a solid diagram showing what he was feeling
When I came across the picture and I started to ruminate on the caption,
I realized that "I doodle a lot"
Wait, Tomi! What does this have to do with me?
It has a lot, I will get there shortly
As at the time I was writing this email, I didn't check if there's a psychological relationship between how doodling helps you and I…
But I later went to make my research
However after this reality dawned on me that, "I realized that I mostly doodle when I'm tired, bored, stressed, angry or whatever word you can think of"
Now to back up my point, One of the psychological effect of doodling is, the Visual representation of thoughts and emotions
That is, when you doodle, you're not just writing your thoughts and emotions, you're making it visual.
So, I'm confidently telling you that, "doodling does a lot more to us than what we know"
You see, as much as words might be able to contain so many thoughts…
Doodling traps much more than writing
I don't know why I'm telling you this but I sense someone needs it.
When you're really stressed, tired or bored or you need to express how you feel, "Try doodling and watch your doodles birth some creative art…
Even the words you will write down won't do much to capture the emotions you're feeling.
And that's where we'll draw the curtain today.
Do well to have a nice day.
Tomi.
P. S.: I'm back again.
To those that reached out when I was sick, I real
ly appreciate it.
My surgery went well, glory to Jesus.
