Welcome to the June 25th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
Our family was meant to make a trip to Gambia during the week.
On Sunday, I got stopped by the police - the first time it has even happened since I have been in Senegal.
By the way, the route I took was an unusual one. I was about 2 minutes from my house when a huge truck caused a bit of traffic. I decided to choose a longer route which brought me face-to-face with a policeman that decided to stop us.
He asked me for my car documents. After going through it, he realised that it had expired 2 days earlier. He explained that the initial registration for the car lasted for 3 years. After that, I had to renew it annually.
Fortunately, I was able to complete the process and get the renewed license on the day of the trip.
If I wasn't stopped by the police, I would not have known.
It would have been a huge bummer if we were sent back at the border crossing because of this.
God works in mysterious ways.
We made the trip and returned safely.
Thank God for everything.
Things I Learnt
1-Courage to Persist: During the week, I had a 30-minute Zoom call with an industry leader in the family life space. The meeting was at my request - which he was gracious to oblige me.
Over conversation went into the early days of how he had to create a path for himself.
When he started the only people that the audience believed had credibility who used to speak and train on family life issues were pastors.
He was not a pastor but he was committed to what he wanted to do.
According to him, he would enter public buses, pay for the fare of everyone on the bus and teach throughout the ride.
On some occasions, after the ride, some would meet up with him to invite him to their events or church.
He persevered for about 5 years.
Now he is an international trainer and certifies so many others to carry on the work he did.
But he needed the courage to carve a path that didn't exist for himself.
A true lesson in progress.
2-Things Only a Parent Understands: A couple of us were reminiscing about some of the things we went through as kids from our parents.
We didn't get the memo when our parents did a bit of this and that on us.
In our words, they didn't understand.
But as parents, we see things now as they saw it then.
They still didn't understand how it is as children but we now understand how it is as parents.
And we repeat some of the same tough love to our kids.
The cycle continues.
It's not a lack of understanding of the present.
It's an appreciation for the future that our kids will be going into.
The discipline of today is to prepare them for the risks that will come in their tomorrow.
Just like it came for us.
Postscript
May you remain committed to the discipline of today which prepares you for the challenges in the future. Amen.
