Faith & Life Lessons - August 14, 2022

Welcome to the August 14th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

If you know me for a bit time, you will know that podcasts are a big part of my personal development practice.

I have been using podcasts since the days of iPods. Those days, I would update them on my PC and sync my iPod to my PC.

All that is mute now. A podcast app on my mobile phone keeps me updated on my podcast.

As part of my personal development practice, I have days for specific podcast areas - Monday for faith & spirituality, Tuesday for self-improvement, Friday for people leading, Saturday for communication, and so on.

I realized something this week.

I was listening too much without giving my head the silence it needs.

And that's why I turned off the sound most of the week.

During my evening or afternoon walks, I didn't listen to anything.

I listened to the silence in my head and the noise in the world around me.

In the silence in my heard, I was able to create new works to go over the noise in the world around me.

I created new solutions.

I am going to be doing this more often in the coming days.

I need the silence in my head more than the new information coming into it

Things I Learnt

1 - The Ask to Ask: Earlier this year, I had a training with Victor Bassey.

One of the tasks I had to do was ask people for money.

This was a bit for me - I don't do this.

I typically find a way around my need for more so that I don't have to ask people.

Now, I had to ask for money.

Victor made it easier on me. He gave me a guide on how to ask.

From it, I came up with a script to work with. I sent this message to the people I selected

I'm in a program and today I have an assignment. To just simply ask people who believe in and support me for money. Doesn't matter how much... Will you support me by giving me some?

Everyone I sent this message to sent me money.

The exercise taught me something - "Getting the right response to an "Ask" depends on how the "Ask" is made"

Since the class ended, I have become braver in asking for things - negotiating for a discount, asking for a favor, etc.

More importantly, I have become more intentional about how I create the "Ask" situation.

Finding the right words and creating the right mood to make the ask has improved me.

I have got a "Yes" more than a "No".

And I am also not afraid to get a "No".

I got a "Yes" recently which made me think about how far I had come since I attended the training.

2-Made for This Season: During the week, I posted this on my social media handles.

I was made for more...and for this time.

Why did I do this?

I saw different answers to different problems stir up in me.

The answers I was creating were a culmination of who I have become from the years I have spent pursuing God in all aspects of my life - personally & professionally.

I don't have to be anything other than who I am to bring these answers.

This is the more that I have been made into and I continue to be becoming.

The answers I provide are the need I stand for at a time like this.

Needs in all areas of life.

This is why I am here.

Made for more....Made for a time like this.

Postscript

May the challenges of today never stop you from agreeing with God that you were made to bring answers into this season. And may you take your place and create the answers to the glory of God. Amen.
