Faith & Life Lessons - June 4, 2023

image

Welcome to the June 4th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

We had a wave of demonstrations and protests that led to the loss of lives & destruction of public and private property across the country.

This was in response to a court verdict in a case with one of the main opposition leaders. The execution of the verdict would make him ineligible to stand for the presidential elections next week.

This pushed his supporters to the streets.

Ahead of the court judgement on Thursday, schools had closed and most businesses had told their staff to work from home on that day.

So, we were all indoors most of Thursday through the weekend.

Later on, during one of the days, I felt the urge to go for a prayer walk.

I took the "Gideon Strategy" - I "prayer-walked" within an area near my house.

The urge was to do a prayer walk - not walk into the lion's den.

We continue to pray for peace.

On Saturday, our church sent out a message to find out if people would be willing to come to church.

The response convinced the leadership to have a service. And we had a good turnout.

I was asked to preach - I think I preached my heart out.

It's one of those sermons that I really spent time praying to God over and preparing for.

I hope I did God proud - you can listen to it here.

It's titled "The Power of God's Grace"

And this is what we continue to live by.

In this season and the seasons to come.

We have grace for all Seasons.

Things I Learnt

1-Overlooking Renewal: Earlier in the week, I met with my coach. I was having a mental holdback on some of the tasks he had outlined during our past meeting.

After a couple of questions letter, he pinpointed the problem.

I needed renewal and a bit of rest.

We realised that I hadn't made time for me-time in recent times.

I had not had any recreational activities alone with myself.

Most of my time was either focused on work or the family - setting out no time for myself.

So, I decided to reclaim my creativity by reclaiming my R&R times.

It's not going to be easy but it is necessary.

2-Rework Your Resources: One of the things I struggled with recently is having a proper structure for collecting all my writing.

Interestingly, it's become such a problem that it is affecting my writing - because my writings have no single database for organising, I feel constrained to write more.

I have been mulling over this for the past couple of weeks.

I eventually found the answer to my problems.

It comes from a software I bought many years ago.

I had bought it to help me with my book-writing process. It has a good internal structure which makes it easy for organising writing research and the content itself.

The idea came to me to use it for organising my writing.

And it has worked its charm.

The skill of reworking existing resources to solve new problems is something I need to focus more and more on.

Sometimes the answers to new problems and just a reach away.

Postscript

May you discover the wisdom to apply your current resources in a way that you can solve your new problems successfully. Amen
