Welcome to the May 5th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
There is a part of the Song of Songs where the Beloved says, "Catch the foxes for us, The little foxes that are ruining the vineyards,"
This week was about fox catching for me.
A couple of little foxes had been getting in the way of me having a healthy vineyard. The fault was all mine. I was letting them do that.
So, I did some fox hunting this week.
The vineyards were my family time and my personal time.
The little foxes were distractions from the tube and lack of structure for my time.
As I write this, I am fox hunting.
How?
I am writing earlier than I usually do.
Because I am kicking the little foxes out.
I'll keep at this until I get all the little foxes out of all the vineyards I am nurturing.
One vineyard at a time
Things I Learnt
1-The Power of The "Ask": I mentioned that I will publish a book soon. I am self-publishing the book.
As part of the pre-launch activities, I compiled a list of people to review the book.
I reached out to them.
More people responded than those who didn't answer. And most of the people that responded agreed to review the book.
When I made my list, I was unsure about everyone I put on the list.
Some of those who said "yes" were a surprise.
The bigger surprise for me was the opportunity to live out one of the things I teach.
It's the "Power of the Ask."
Don't be afraid to ask.
Don't let the fear of getting a "No" stop you from asking.
The world is filled with more people who will say "Yes".
I asked, and I got more people who said "Yes".
And because of that, I have supporters for my book.
Something important for an author who is self-publishing.
2-Be Good at Helping People Succeed: A lot of things that happened at work showed that there are different ways to help people succeed at work.
Three different people - all of them were people I worked with at various levels.
For one, to help him win, I had to help him transfer part of the load he was carrying to his team members.
For another, I had to give direct feedback about how she needed to up her game.
For another, we could not tell him about his deficiency. Instead, we could work with his boss to surround him with people who would help him do a better job.
The last one came after I spoke with my boss. He had a fuller view of the situation, so he could give a better assessment of it.
This is fun about working - there are different ways to help people succeed.
We just have to become better at seeing how we can do this.
Postscript
May you grow in your ability to help people succeed at work. Amen
