Welcome to the September 3rd edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
On Sunday, we went to a restaurant that my wife had wanted us to go to.
She had visited it with a couple of friends and enjoyed the experience.
The only thing she didn’t know was that it was a different experience during the weekend.
For me, it was crowded and noisy.
Just not my idea of a family Sunday lunch experience.
Maybe that’s why I didn’t find the meals exceptional. Probably a case of my eating experience being defined by the ambience of the environment.
This was a case of different days of the week defining the overall experience of a meal.
My wife and her friends had visited on a weekday at a low-traffic point while we had come on a weekend at high traffic point.
A world of difference it made.
Hmmm…reminds me of the difficulty of keeping a consistent customer experience.
But this is the most important thing to anyone leading a business.
Keeping the customer experience as similar and consistent as can be.
Things I Learnt
1-The Value of a Trusted Adviser: Thursday is my weekly spiritual renewal day.
I pray, I fast and do any other thing that deepens my spiritual walk.
When I got down to pray this week, I heard God say to me “You are lazy”.
As I heard it, a couple of things raced to my mind that I needed to address. And I started to work on them.
The next day, I was due to have my monthly meetup with my spiritual director. During our conversation, I told him about this and the actions I was taking.
He told me to ask God “What else?”
His advice was a warning. Assuming that I knew all the areas God was calling my attention was “leaning on my understanding.”
Just as I had listened to help the rebuke, I also needed to listen to know all the areas the rebuke covered.
Wise words from a trusted advisor.
Wise words that I am putting into action.
2-Making the Right Sacrifices: Someone close to me shared a conversation she had with a worship leader in her church.
She noticed that he hadn’t led worship at the church for a while. Instead of assuming, she asked him.
He responded that he noticed that he was overcommitting his time to so many things that it had eaten into his time with his family.
And so he decided to take back some of that time by giving up certain roles he was a part of.
I was impressed by his sense of what is important in life.
There are some sacrifices we don’t need to make in life and there are some we have to make.
Sometimes, we have to sacrifice external pursuits so we can be fully present to the people who can’t replace us with anyone else if we are not available.
Placing them on a higher value sense makes the sacrifice worth it
Postscript
May you find the courage to sacrifice your time to be there for the relationships where you can’t be replaced ahead of any external glory. Amen.
