My read-through is finally done! Editing thoughts, author updates, and books to read!

Hello again!

I finally did something that I used to do once a week in high school. I finished reading a book!

Granted, it was a book that I had written, and I was doing minor edits as I went, and taking notes on changes that needed to be made. But still! It might be the longest a read-through has ever taken me.

Here's a summary of the damage:

  • A medium number of small changes need to be made. Things like changing the wording of a particular line of dialogue, or deciding whether to keep a certain description.
  • A small number of medium changes need to be made. Things like changing the order in which certain information is revealed, the way it gets revealed, the way certain character respond to some things.
  • A handful of big changes need to be made. Things like remembering that a certain character exists and needs to be re-written into the story (oops), one group of characters need a completely different backstory, and a thorough check to see that all the different plot threads weave smoothly into each other across the whole story AND match Book 1 and my plans for Book 3.

Phew!

There are also a few things that I suspect might have to change, but it will depend on how my trusted test readers respond.

Overall, the big picture stuff seems to hang together pretty well. Now it's all about details and execution. It can be fiddly, and perfectionism can get in the way, but with a big effort and careful thinking it should be manageable.

Maybe - tentatively - sometime during early 2025, perhaps, we might just see Book 2 'An Elvish Rebel's Field Guide to the Art of Hit-and-Run' hitting the digital shelves.

Until then, I'll be hard at work editing, so why not enjoy some of the books below by authors like me?
