They said that at the end of his journey, King Adzi Akkatha died and was reborn, and that he walks the world still. I say that he died and remained dead. I have walked among all the cities and villages and I tell you, I see no trace of him.
Kishar, the Humble One. Chapter 11 epigraph
King Anazhandi Akkatha walked the halls of his palace among braziers lit with tall flames. Out of the flames sprang visions of himself being overrun by the ghosts of conquered peoples. Everywhere he turned this vision burned into his eyes, until he covered them and cried out in despair. That marked the day of the first Hinatsi uprising, and they were quelled with much bloodshed, but King Anazhandi remembered the apparitions for all of his days.
The Hall of the Obelisks, Chapter 7 Epigraph
Long ago, Bashur Akkatha, son of the first Akkathan King, had need of many things to continue his father’s rule. With all the hours of the day he could not write the new oaths and laws and histories of his people, nor could he direct all his soldiers in battle across his many campaigns. Thus, he called upon his wisest advisor, and said unto her, “I bless you with the grace of Mesopos, and you shall have a part of my power. The priestesses of the Temple of Mesopos will be yours to command, and your word shall be binding among them.” And it was done. Then he called upon his strongest soldier and said, “I bless you with the strength of Mesopos, and you shall have a part of my power. The Immortals will be bound to your word, and face great punishment if they forsake their oaths.” And it was done. Then he called upon his cleverest servants and said, “I bless you all with the smallest part of my power yet, but it will be the most important. You all shall reside below the city in the Halls of the Obelisks made by my father, and you shall write the histories of our people for all time. Stone blessed by my hand cannot be marked, but to you I give you the power to mark it with hammer and chisel, that the Mesoposshar can be imprinted with words pleasing to me.” And it was done, and the lesser powers were given to those loyal to the King.
