First of all, we would like to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year! Best wishes to all of our clients (current and future) in 2023!
It has been nearly a year since we launched our funding campaign for the 2022 walnut plantation and there is a lot to be proud of. An amazing journey full of ups and downs, accomplishments and lessons learned... So let's use this opportunity to make a recap of all of the amazing achievements so far!
January 2022
The Walnut Fund company was founded back in 2020. Our initial campaign launched in march of that year but we quickly realized that the pandemic posed too big of a risk. We were forced to delay that year's funding campaign and returned all accumulated funds to investors. We used that dormant period to restructure the company, re-design the brand and set everything in place to get ready for better times. January 2022 marks the opening of our Croatian office and the "blossoming" of our company.
February 2022
Our funding campaign began, and we received our first orders! As a new company, many were reluctant to endow us with their funds, nevertheless our persistence and high level of transparency gained the trust of many.
We guested investors from around the globe, held dozens of online meetings, attended startup conventions and much more! The company gained the attention of not only investors but people who were looking to begin their orchards but did not have the time or resources to do so. The Walnut Fund family began to grow!
March - July 2022
With our campaign going strong it was time to start searching for the most important element of our business - The land! The search was not easy at all. We travelled the country up and down, looking at various parcels of land, taking soil samples, negotiating, and much more!
After months of searching, we were fortunate to find a fantastic 18-hectare piece of land in northern Serbia near the small village of Molovin. (VIDEO) Located exactly on the border between Serbia and Croatia the future walnut plantation is important not only to us because it is our first collective client-based plantation, but because it represents a link between the two countries from which we received the greatest support!

August 2022
Preparation for the upcoming planting period was heavily underway. Cleaning the field from the previous sunflower harvest, plowing the land, and upgrading the soil with hundreds of tons of sheep manner were only some of the preliminary steps in setting the foundation for this year plantation. With soil preparation well underway we needed to equip our plantation with the necessary infrastructure. We needed to erect a supply hanger and begin work on the irrigation network! The irrigation system is comprised of a 200 000 litre water tank, over 40 kilometres of irrigation piping, pumps, mixers and more. Construction of the supplied hanger (also serving as an operations and control centre for the irrigation system) also started and we are expecting work to come to an end within the next couple of weeks.
September - December 2022
It's not all work! Apart from preparing everything for the 2022 planting window, we held our first investor meetup. More than 80 people from all over the world come to see where the future plantation will be established. Check some of the investor's opinions HERE. We spent a wonderful afternoon on the field, enjoying a delicious barbeque - shout out to our lead agri-engineer Ugljesa who not only knows his plants but also knows his way around the grill!
2023
Much awaits us in 2023! With temperatures finally dropping (a necessity for Sapling transportation and planting), we are happy to say that the walnut trees will be planted in the first half of January 2023!
