ACHING WINGS OF HOPE

John Chinaka Onyeche

Father figure.

Some nights,

heartache comes,

Puncturing my soul

& my tongue thirsts for words.

Where these words grow wings,

dashing into flying schools.

But here I return each night,

scribbling on tablets of time.

My aches as I name them,

one after the other until morrow.

Where, if I am a survival bird

in this enrolled school of flying,

I hope and am sure that I will

& I am sure that life was what it is.

Worthy of living for those who want to,

just as I am living in the past & in the now.
