STARTLING, THE SILVERFISH

Michela Menna

Startling, the silverfish

That crawled across the car,

Its tentacles like barnacles

But pointed and absurd.

There it appeared

And there I screamed;

The car swivelled a screech,

And there it came;

The hurricane

Of parents pissed at me.

They said to strive

That when you drive

You mustn't create a scene,

But I can't help it, for I thought

An alien had looked at me!
