STRAY BLOOD
Angela Arnold
Just a speck
on the pavement,
a small splatter of life
lost in passing. Nose
gushing? Something
suffered in haste?
At somebody's
hands? Stray blood
left for all now
to gather up
with anxious eyes,
in our same hot-
pulse heads:
the red stuff
that is one sea,
one blood, after all,
calling to us
to own it.
