🍩 Good day, Donuts!
Some of you may know that I come from a Kanban culture, where efficiency and productivity are on a pedestal. I am donuts not only about marketing but also about productivity. Over the last 2-3 months, I've noticed that I linger over my work for way too long. And this week, I went back to the gold-old Pomodoro technique. I am using an easy to set, Chrome extension called Marinara Pomodoro Assistant.
I prefer working in chunks of productive blocks, have some rest, and then continue working. I have noticed that I can tolerate 90 mins of work blocks. For a 10/11-hour active day, I extract 6x90-minute of focused blocks, which is 9 hours of productive work in a day. Not bad 👌.
However, I played some mind games so I can easily swallow those chunks of work. I made a deal with myself. Once I'm done with my 6 blocks of work, I can watch my favorite crime documentaries on Netflix.
And, oh boy, it worked better than I expected. And here is why I think it did:
- 🎞️ I am an avid movie junkie. Yes, if there were a profession to watch movies and documentaries all day, that would have been my profession of choice.
- 😧 However, I feel guilty when I watch movies, as in the back of my workaholic mind, I am wasting time.
- 😪 Then I feel bad that I cannot watch my favorite crimes, I also feel bad if I do so, and I also find myself doing 9-hour work for 11 hours. Catch-22.
- 😊 But, when I manage to complete 9-hour work hours in 9 hours, I feel enormous gratification from the whole day. I feel like it's okay to take the time and treat myself to a movie (I am very selfish with my time).
And I don't know if this is a dangerous mind game to play, but I haven't felt so productive and well-self-treated in a long, long time. I will continue with this work system and see how it goes.
💻Redesign: Outdoor's Niche Website
In last week's newsletter, I said that one of the significant improvements planned for February is switching my website theme to Thrive Suite. And I did so in 3 days, including QA-ing. Yay! I will write a blog post about the changes I made with visual examples, so you can sense what and why I did it.
The website looks beautiful, not your typical affiliate websites. It looks like an authoritative brand. When I open a blog post, I genuinely enjoy reading it. This is how good, in my eyes, it is.
And I know it's too early to report, but I think that this will be a strong month for this website, especially with all the upcoming changes. Almost every day, I have a sale through Amazon's Affiliate program. Also, the traffic to my money articles keeps growing 🤑.
What's next - I am launching several CRO experiments. Of course, I will reveal them to you once I figure them out.
🔗 Link building: I Am Buying Links
I've already said that I do buy links for some of my niche websites, where natural acquisition is challenging.
👮 For example, Mila?
Well, yes, the coupon niche. Try outreaching someone for a backlink without paying for a "sponsored guest post." Good luck with that.
So for my coupon website, I am buying links on Fiverr and testing 10 various agencies, which sell relatively affordable links. I found one seller on Fiverr who does the outreach for you, and if the webmaster agrees, you can have your guest post. These are websites with some solid 5K+ monthly traffic, which doesn't accept guest posts on whatever topic. The guest post must be 100% relevant to their website topic.
When I finish with my testing, I might wrap it all, including my link sources, and sell the info for $50 bucks. At the end of the day, I've risked my sites, I've spent the money, and I put the hours of research. So $50 for a tested list of link building services isn't that expensive 🤡.
And if you still think that buying links is a dangerous game, you will be left behind, especially if you are competing in tough niches. You need to be smart about the links you buy. I've already talked about buying links on Fiverr and how to do it intelligently. Of course, mix up outreach with buying links.
As we have heavy snowing in Sofia (or at least near the Vitosha mountain), I will spend the rest of my day painting my bathroom door and drinking some fine Carménère (no, I won't wait until noon to open the bottle).
Enjoy this day🍷
Own your future, Friends!
