What can film photography teach us about life?

Dear ,

As we approach the end of another year, we’re reminded of the beauty in slowing down, embracing the present, and cherishing time spent with those we love.

Recently, we finally developed the film of a disposable Fujifilm camera that we've been filling with memories for over 2 years. Looking over what we captured made us stop and think — the beauty of film photography reveals a LOT about life and family.

Don't believe us? Here are a few lessons we’ve been thinking about, especially as we enter the holiday season:

1. Patience is Key

Life, like developing a roll of film, requires patience. Not every moment is instantly clear, and sometimes we have to let things unfold at their own pace. This season, let’s savor the moments we can’t rush—the laughter of family gatherings, the quiet pauses, and the time we share with those we hold dear.

2. Embracing Imperfection

Much like the grain and light leaks in film photos, life is full of beautiful imperfections. Our "mistakes," unexpected detours, and imperfections make us who we are and add richness to our experience. Let’s embrace the messy, wonderful, real moments that make family life so uniquely meaningful.

3. Presence & Intentionality

Every frame counts when you're using film, which makes you more mindful about where you place your focus. The same can be said for our time with loved ones—this season, let’s intentionally focus on what truly matters: connection, joy, and being present with each other.

4. Joy & Pain are like Sunshine & Rain

In both photography and life, light and shadow coexist, shaping how we see the world. Just as joy and pain often walk hand-in-hand, this time of year invites us to reflect on both the bright moments and the more challenging ones. And in both, we find growth, strength, and beauty.

5. Embracing Life’s Unpredictability

When you take a shot on film, you can never fully know how it will turn out. Life, too, is filled with unexpected moments—both beautiful and surprising. This season, let’s embrace the mystery of what’s to come and trust that the best moments are often the ones we never saw coming.

6. A Restful Approach to Life

Film photography teaches us to slow down, be present, and enjoy the process. In a world that rushes from one thing to the next, let’s take a moment this holiday season to rest, recharge, and reconnect with what matters most—our families, our well-being, and the quiet joy of being together.

As we close out the year, we wish you moments of rest, peace, and meaningful connection. May this season remind us all of the beauty in taking our time, embracing imperfections, and, most of all, being together.

With warmth and gratitude,

The Nap Time ShowTeam 🙏🏽💛

P.S. Here's to a new year filled with more moments of love, rest, and family well-being!
