Hey there ,

Can we start off by just being real for a second?? January was...interesting...to say the least. 🥲 We want you to know it's okay if you're just taking things day by day because that's all you have to give. Sometimes you just need a "woosah moment" to rest into some joy. That's why we're excited to share how The Nap Time Show is celebrating Black Children’s Book Week this year—and we’d love for YOU to join us in the festivities, whether you're near or far!

What is Black Children's Book Week?

Black Children’s Book Week is a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media. Black Children’s Book Week starts on the last Sunday in February every year.

From Sunday, February 23rd to Saturday, March 1st, we’ll be hosting a variety of fun, educational, and inspiring events that honor Black authors, illustrators, and stories that shape young minds. This week is all about celebrating culture, fostering a love of reading, and of course, encouraging restful moments for kids and families!

Here’s what we’ve got planned:

🎬 2/23: Live Bedtime Story on YouTube

Time: 7:00 PM EST

We’re kicking off the week with a special live bedtime story on YouTube! Tune in for a relaxing, bedtime-ready tale by a talented Black author. Don’t forget to subscribe to be notified, and get shoutouts when you comment on our Instagram and Facebook pages! 🌙💬

📚 2/26: Wednesday Night Reading Trivia on Zoom

Time: 8:00 PM EST

How much do you know about Black authors, illustrators, and stories? Join us for an interactive Reading Trivia Night! You’ll get to learn fun facts about some amazing books and authors while competing for the chance to win some cool prizes! This is the perfect way to engage with the stories that celebrate Black culture and creativity. 🏆🎉

🎤 2/28: Read & Rap - Virtual Singalong & Read Along

Time: 6:00 PM EST

Don't have freestyle rhymes? Don't worry about it! Join us on Instagram Live for a virtual karaoke session where we’ll read and sing along to some of our favorite tunes from Black children's books. It’s the perfect way to unwind, celebrate, and tap into your inner performer. 🌟🎶

🎉 3/1: Free Live Performance in Detroit

Time: 2:00 PM EST

The grand finale of Black Children’s Book Week! If you’re in or near Detroit, don’t miss our free live performance at the Detroit Public Library Parkman Branch. We’ll be singing, dancing, reading, and giving away goodies to make this an afternoon full of fun, family, and community! 🎶📖🎁

(And yes, we’ll have naptime-friendly activities too!)
