🎉 Introducing: Rest + Real Ones
A spotlight series by The Nap Time Show™ featuring early educators doing real work, with real impact.
👀 Today’s spotlight: A Mother’s Touch & Inspire Horizons Academy
Meet the founders:
✨ Dr. Brook Fletcher – Child development expert and Founder/Director
✨ Starr Mastrodonato – Systems builder and Executive Director
Their two sister programs serve different populations with the same soul:
“We center the child and surround them with support.”
When families walk through their doors, they want them to feel:
“Seen, empowered, and held. We aim to offer not just education, but a village.”
🧠 Their work is grounded in frameworks that truly serve.
“We’re deeply rooted in trauma-informed care, the Pyramid Model for social-emotional development, and the belief that behavior is communication.”
Classrooms are built for calm and trust:
“We design our classrooms with sensory regulation in mind; muted lighting, soft textures, visual cues, and predictable routines.”
They even teach emotional literacy through play.
“It’s not about forcing compliance. It’s about inviting connection.”
🧒🏽 Transitions? They approach them like a science.
“Transitions are often the most stimulating moments in a child’s day.”
“We don’t see this as a hardship; we see it as an opportunity to apply our expertise.”
Their tools include visual schedules, countdown prompts, social stories, and transitional gross motor breaks.
“We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach.”
“The result is an environment where children, regardless of diagnosis, feel safe, seen, and supported through every rhythm of the day.”
💤 On rest and regulation...for kids and staff:
“We make space for rest on purpose. Our program closes four times a year, as well as every single federal holiday.”
“We also host monthly ‘Provider Pause’ sessions, an intentional time for our staff to reflect, decompress, and feel supported.”
Their approach is strategic.
“Our professional development goes beyond compliance and curriculum; it covers conflict resolution, leadership growth, and personal well-being.”
📺 What about screens in the classroom?
“In our classrooms, screens are used sparingly, often as visual support for social-emotional learning or as part of music and movement routines.”
“The missing piece is often tools that are developmentally appropriate, culturally diverse, and tied to real-time educator interaction.”
(We felt that one in our soul.)

🧸 A mic drop moment on early ed myths:
“The myth that early educators are just ‘watching kids.’ We are brain builders. We are attachment figures. We are the scaffolding between birth and the rest of a child’s life.”
“Early education isn’t preparation for real learning; it is real learning.”
