Hey Parents & Educators,

We've got a problem: kids today aren’t holding pencils, using scissors, or even tying their shoes as well as they used to.

Here’s why:

  • Increased screen time is making kids less engaged in hands-on activities.
  • Outdoor play has been reduced, affecting motor development.
  • The pandemic disrupted early childhood routines.

But don’t panic—there’s hope!

Why are we so concerned about fine motor skills?

As National Geographic and The Guardian pointed out, kids today are behind in skills like:

  • Holding pencils
  • Tying shoes
  • Using scissors

These skills are foundational for everyday tasks, from writing and using utensils to tying shoes and buttoning clothes. When children struggle with basic motor tasks, it affects their ability to independently navigate the world and can lead to frustration, low self-esteem, and academic challenges later on. Fine motor skills also play a key role in brain development, influencing cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory, and concentration. A delay in developing these skills can have a long-term impact on a child's overall growth, making it crucial to address this issue early.
