This is a "failure to launch" email.
Yesterday, I had an email ready to go about monetizing your mind to promote the 3rd episode of the show.
BUT... Spotify tanked our show over a music clip.
They are blocking episodes 2 and 3 because of our intro music saying we don't have the right to use it even though we've given them proof we have a usage certificate.
Youtube has cleared us so you can go watch all of our episodes there.
Even with following Spotify's procedures, including reuploading new versions without the offending music, they still haven't released our show.
Launching something new always comes with unforeseen problems. How you handle them for yourself and your customers (or newsletter subscribers such as yourself) matters.
First you own up to the problems. Let your customers know you are taking responsibility even when it is something outside your control.
Next, you apologize to them. Let them know you didn't intend to cause a problem and that you are actively working to remedy the situation.
Third, fix it. Figure out a solution even if it's not a great one. Just get things working again. Your customers will trust you to have their back whenever mistakes are made.
Lastly, tell your customers it is fixed. Don't assume they know the problem has been solved.
I should have sent you this email yesterday, I'm sorry that I didn't. I really did believe the problem was going to get resolved yesterday since we spent all day trying to comply with Spotify.
My next step is to delete episodes 2 and 3 completely. Then reupload them with new file names, titles, etc.
If that fails, I'll switch podcast hosts.
I appreciate you sticking with me on the launch of The Monetize. I promise I'll make the show better and better as we grow.
All the best,
Tim
