Trek Domane+ SLR is an ultralight e-road bike

image

Weighing in as low as 11.8kg (26.01lb), the new full carbon Trek Domane+ SLR is both fast and smooth. The Class 3 TQ Drive System is ultra quiet and assists up to 45km/h (28mph...in the US. European markets get the Class One 28km/h [17.4mph] version).

The 300W/50Nm motor and 360Wh battery are good for up to 60 miles (90 w/ range extender battery pack) and fits up to 700x40 tires. The tune provides natural-feeling power while boosting you in hills and headwinds, and an IsoSpeed decoupler boosts seatpost compliance to smooth rough roads. Models include 2x Shimano road and 1x SRAM gravel groups, from $8,499 to $12,999.

Trek Domane+ AL5 alloy e-road bike is a lot more affordable

image

Taking a different approach, the Trek Domane+ AL5 uses a premium aluminum frame with a 250W, 40Nm rear hub motor and 250Wh downtube battery w/ 250Wh range extender battery pack available separately. Combine them for ~110 miles of range in Eco mode.

Clever remote buttons at the brake hoods with an inset top tube display put controls in easy reach and view. A bottom bracket torque/cadence sensor controls power output in sync with your effort for a smoother, more natural assist. Add racks and fenders to make it a commuter. Best part? It's just $3,499, but the assist caps out at 20mph.

Prototype SRAM Eagle AXS, Eagle SL cassette details

image

I spotted the upcoming direct-mount Eagle AXS rear derailleur, new Eagle SL cassette, Blackbox Quarq powermeter/chainring combo, and more at Roc d'Azur. Here's the full story, published separately as a deep dive tech feature.

Apidura Backcountry Frame Pack adds storage to your MTB

image

The new Apidura Backcountry Frame Pack adds 1L of storage to your front triangle's forward nook, fitting most hardtails and full suspension frames thanks to a reversible fit. It's waterproof, features a zippered side entry, internal lash tabs to keep stuff from rattling, and a pocket for valuables.

Each end also has optional cable ports (you pierce them if you want them) so you can use it to house headlight batteries. The lower strap uses a Woojin buckle, and upper straps are Hypalon nylon with Velcro closures. MSRP is $65, weight is 100g, dimensions (in cm) are 22L x 10.5H x 6W.

Specialized Globe Haul commuter e-bike teaser

image

Filled with fun touches like smiley face grips and "Carless Whisper" fat tires, the Globe e-bike line should offer quality, feature-rich e-bikes more affordably than Specialized's higher end Turbo Vados. They're aimed specifically at getting people to switch from their car to the bike, so they have lights, fenders, and a plethora of basket, bag, and accessory mounts. Teaser pics now, full launch next week.

Fizik Tempo, Terra Artica GXT winter shoes

image

The new Tempo Artica GTX (road) and Terra Artica GTX (gravel, mountain bike) winter shoes replace the prior model's speed lace closure and zippered cover with a BOA dial that can be adjusted while riding. A Velcro ankle cuff seals the top.

The breathable three-layer GoreTex Koala membrane keeps wind and water out, and a synthetic outer can be wiped clean. A fuzzy, fleecy interior keeps you warm, and they're built on a wider last with a bit more room inside to accommodate winter socks. MSRP is $259/€259.

Wolf Tooth Components Resolve dropper seatpost will never droop

image

Four years in development, the new Wolf Tooth Resolve dropper post uses a self-bleeding cartridge to purge any air bubbles on every drop, so it'll never sag or feel squishy. It also has the lowest stack height (32mm) and a short insertion depth (90mm to 140mm) to fit more bikes.

It comes in 30.9 & 31.6 with 125, 160 & 200 mm travel, and travel can be adjusted in 5mm increments via spacers. Claimed weights from 440g to 563g. It's compatible with any cable remote, and they make that, too. MSRP is $350 to $380, ReMote is $70. Ti bolt kit upgrade is $13.

Suunto 9 Peak Pro GPS smartwatch tracks HR, O2 & routes for weeks

image

The new Suunto 9 Peak Pro adds a faster processor and longer battery life, extending its tracking ability for up to 300 hours. Turn off GPS and it'll track health metrics like HR, Sleep and Blood O2 for 21 days, and recharges completely in just 1 hour.

Bread crumb trails, Komoot navigation & Strava route integrations, and easy post-workout uploads to Strava, TrainingPeaks, etc., make it a great (and extremely lightweight) adventure watch. A new UI interface makes it easier to read and use, too. Available in stainless steel ($549) and titanium ($599). Buy now at REI.

Marin Gestalt X10 gravel bike is a slacker adventure bike

image

With a really slack 67.5º head angle, 425mm chainstays and low BB drop, the 2023 Marin Gestalt X10 gravel bike gets long and low with wide handlebars & dropper post compatibility. The mountain bike inspired geometry adds offroad stability, perfect for bikepacking and backroad exploration.

700x50 (or 27.5x2.1) tire clearance and fork and rear rack mounts give you options, even for commuting. A MicroShift AdventX 10-speed group, Tektro mechanical disc brakes, and housebrand parts keep it affordable yet functional. MSRP is just $1,549.

Wilier Urta eMTB is ultralight with impressive range

image

The Wilier Urta e-mountain bike weighs less than 16kg (~35lbs, in top trim) yet packs a 430Wh battery powering a 60Nm Fazua Ride 60 motor. The 120mm travel "downcountry" eMTB can go further with a 210Wh range extender tacked on.

A carbon monocoque front triangle, a one-piece bar/stem, and 27.2 dropper seatpost spec save weight. Two bottle cage mounts, 29x2.4" tire clearance, and slack 66.5º head angle keep it ready for big days on big trails. Four models range from €7,000 to €12,500.

REEB's Steel Short Travel MTB is made in USA w/ 3D printed parts

image

The 120mm travel REEB SST mountain bike pairs 3D-printed steel dropouts, chainstay yoke and seatstay clevis with an incredible amount of materials engineering and flattened chainstay design to produce a pivot-less rear end with a very efficient ride.

It's paired with coil shocks to deliver a ride quality that seems bottomless, benefitting from steel's lively ride quality. All frames are handmade in Lyons, CO. Framesets & complete bikes ship in early 2023, order now with a $100 deposit.

The Cadence Collection Tuloy Ang Laban ("the fight continues") collection by Filipino artist DJ Javier and ambassador Adrian Andrada celebrates Filipino American History Month. 10% of sales benefits Bike for the Philippines, providing bikes for underprivileged folks there.
