I lost my TV

A few weeks ago I lost my firestick - AKA my TV.
Prominent people I follow don’t even have a TV in their house, so I saw this as a good opportunity to give the whole "no TV" thing a try.
What happened? Clarity and peace of mind happened.
A wise entrepreneur once said this to me:
“People don’t give themselves enough time to think.
They’re always busy and surrounded by noise.”
For most of us (myself included), we avoid silence.
Always drowning it out with a podcast, music, or television.
We're constantly going going going and never taking a moment to STOP, look up, and just be thankful for what we have.
Not having a TV for a few weeks gave me this opportunity.
And unlocked 4 hours per night (20 hours per week) to block out all the noise of life to just focus on what's right in front of me.
Easy? No.
Worth it? Yes
One of my favorite Christian authors wrote a book called "To Hell With The Hustle" that talked about the importance of embracing margin.
In short, if your schedule is stuffed to the brim with to-dos, you’ll quickly become a jerk because of just how inconvenient life can be.
Instead, leave room for the everyday surprises. Learn to enjoy them.
Being momentarily TV-less reminded me this important concept...
There are a lot of interesting people out there living without a TV full-time.
(I know, can you believe it!)
Here's how they manage:
- Why: Most news is out of our realm of control
- How: Digest news at the same time(s) every day. Never more.
- Why: Noise at end of day distracts from goals
- How: Spend TV time reading, writing, talking, exercising, etc.
- Why: Constant noise takes away from conversation
- How: Be 100% present with whomever you're with.
- Why: TV is mostly dopamine hits that's addicting
- How: Other mediums like books are much richer long term
Pretty cool alternative way of life if you ask me.
