4 out of 6 induced birth

Dear ,
It's learning time!
Let’s talk about induction (and augmentation).
Ang induction of labor ay ang pagsisimula ng labor from zero point. Ibig sabihin, hindi pa talaga nagsisimula ang labor on its own.
Kapag malaki daw kasi, may risk of having a shoulder dystocia.
However, according to research, permanent nerve injuries due to stuck shoulders happen to 1 out of every 555 babies who weigh between 3.68 kg and 4.25 kg, and to 1 out of every 175 babies who weigh 4.25 kg or greater.
Many studies have shown that the “suspicion” of a big baby typically increases the likelihood of a Cesarean birth without improving the health of the mother or baby.
Dahil kung titingnan mo ang anatomy ng sipit ng babae, ang pelvic bones natin ay very flexible during birth, nag aadjust ito according to the object that passes along the passageway, like a baby’s head or body.
Kaya kung may “suspetsa” ang doktor ng malaki ang baby mo at nag rerekomenda ng induction, learn more about it. Magtanong tungkol sa risks and benefits. Be informed before you make any decision.
2.Postdates. Kapag ang baby mo ang full term na o kaya past it’s term, malimit na nirerekomenda ang induction to start labor. The traditional way of estimating the due date is by calculating the last day of the last menstrual period (LMP) you had.
At 41 weeks, out of 10,000 pregnant people, about 6 will have a stillbirth. This means 9,994 won’t have a stillbirth. In comparison, at 42 weeks,10 out of 10,000 pregnant people, will have a stillbirth. This means 9,990 won’t have a stillbirth. So this means that an extra 4 people out of 10,000 might avoid a stillbirth by being induced at 41 weeks. For the other 9,994 people, it won’t make any difference.
I was advised to get an induction for 3 births that I had. Yung pang-apat, was an “augmentation”.
Sa apat na inductions na to, I believe I did not make an informed decision.
3.Advanced maternal age. Kapag ang nanganganak ay tumuntong sa edad na 35 or above, kina-categorize na sya sa advanced maternal age of pregnancy, or elderly gravida. Kaya mandalas nirerekomenda agad to undergo induction or cesarean section during birth.
While having a baby after 35 can put someone in a higher risk category for miscarriage, birth defects, stillbirth, there is no consensus among researchers and obstetrical/midwifery organizations on the best way to care for a person at the end of pregnancy when they are 35 or older.
Ang magandang balita ay, a vast majority of people na 35 and above na umaabot sa full term ay healthy ang baby.
Personal testimony: I had a baby at 35, 36 and 38. All were delivered vaginally. The first at 35, I was induced at 40 weeks sa hospital. The second one at 36, I was augmented because my labor stalled sa lying in. These two birth experiences brought me complications and trauma. The last one at 38, was an unmedicated home birth. The best birth experience I ever had.
I’m teaching you about these things para malaman mo ang mga bagay na kailangan mong maintindihan sa panahong kailangan mong gumawa ng decision regarding the way you experience birth.
Ngunit mahalaga ding isaalang-alang ang values, goals at preferences ng nanganganak during the decision-making process.
Kapag nakatanggap ng tama, sapat at evidence-based information at guidance galing sa iyong health care provider, ang manganganak ay may karapatang magdesisyon kung magpapa-induce, or mahihintay for spontaneous labor to start with appropriate fetal monitoring.
Obstetricians indicate inductions at 41+1 weeks gestation
Midwives indicate inductions at 42+1 weeks gestation
Anong pwede mong gawin to delay induction?
1. Intindihin ang research
Sabi nga, ginawa ng Diyos ang katawan natin to grow life inside our body for a certain period of time.
Every birth is unique.
Kaya trust that your body and your baby know their perfect time.
