5 ways that make Oxytocin my favorite hormone

Dear ,

Tuloy mong basahin to para malaman mo.

Let’s get to know Oxytocin a little better.

Oxytocin is a hormone that’s produced in the hypothalamus and released into the bloodstream by the pituitary gland.

Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. Once released by glands into your bloodstream, they act on various organs and tissues to control everything from the way your body functions to how you feel.

One group of hormones is nicknamed the "feel-good hormones" because of the happy and, sometimes, euphoric feelings they produce. They're also considered neurotransmitters, which means they carry messages across the spaces between nerve cells.  [source: health.harvard.edu]

Dopamine, serotonin, endorphins at oxytocin.

Sa ngayon, kilalanin muna natin si Oxytocin.

Maraming functions ang Oxytocin.

  1. Facilitates birth.
  2. Facilitates lactation. Ito kasi ang in charge sa milk ejection reflex (MER) kaya lumalabas ang gatas sa milk ducts ng breast during breastfeeding
  3. Facilitates ejaculation.
  4. Promotes feeling of intimacy and closeness. Kaya ito tinatawag na “love hormone” kasi ang Oxytocin is associated with trust, sexual arousal and relationship building. Kaya pala kahit simpleng touch, na rerelease ito and it makes you feel good agad.
  5. Lowers stress and anxiety. For example, if you feel fear about something and somebody hugs you in a protective and reassuring manner, nawawala ang feeling of fear na yun. The touch and show of protection released the Oxytocin kaya kumakalma ka at eventually bumababa ang stress at anxiety mo.

Imagine kung more pa. Hahaha! *wink wink*

Ikaw momsh?
