FAIR-ISLE KNITTED HAT OR SWEATER

Sat, Jan 7, 28, Feb 18, Mar 18               1 to 4 pm Free

Fri, Jan 13, Feb 10, Mar 10

Fair Isle or stranded knitting is technique where you knit using two colors in each row to create patterns.  We’ll start out this class with a simple hat with a zig-zag pattern from Cottage Creations to learn how to hold both yarns at the same time, how to handle floats, and all about background and dominant yarns.  We have kits available with a solid background color and a self-striping contrasting color, or choose two contrasting solids.  For those interested we will then segue into a top down seamless yoke sweater with a fair isle yoke or all over fair isle design.  Although there are many patterns available, the book The Art of Circular Yokes by Kerry Bogert has multiple patterns with fair isle designs, from elegant two-color patterns to trendy multi-color patterns.

BEGINNERS TOP-DOWN SOCKS

Sat, Jan 14, Feb 11, Mar 4 and 25                       1 to 4 pm               Free

Fri, Jan 27, Feb 24, Mar 17

Learn all the components of knitting a simple sock from the top down.  You can do one at a time or try two-at-a-time on circular needles.  We will be doing a basic sock with a ribbed cuff, stockinette leg, reinforced heel flap, heel turn, gusset, stockinette foot and a standard toe.  With our plentiful supply of sock yarn, choose a self-patterning yarn for fun or a solid color for a more sophisticated look.  Although it is helpful to know how to knit and purl, an adventurous beginner can handle socks.  You’ll be learning how to knit in the round (either on circular needles or double points) and how to measure a sock to fit.

CROCHETED BABY BLANKET

Fri, Jan 20, Feb 17, Mar 24                        1 to 4 pm              Free

Sat, Feb 4 and 15, Mar 11

For beginner to advanced crocheters, learn how to do a simple and easy V-stitch baby afghan with a crocheted all around border using any weight of yarn.  Great for new crocheters to learn a simple stitch pattern.  Choose a solid color, a self-striping yarn or stripe it yourself with multiple colors.  Crocheters will also learn new techniques such as how to start a row with a double crochet and how to weave in yarns as you go.

MINI HOW TO: MAKING REPAIRS

Fri, Feb 3 and Mar 3                            1 to 4 pm                  Free

Do you have a dropped stitch or a pattern mistake in a finished project?  Need to repair the toe or heel of a sock?  Want to lengthen the arms or body of a sweater sleeve or foot / leg of a sock?  I have had multiple requests for a class on how to make repairs and fix mistakes like these.  So we will be doing a 2-part tutorial on a techniques to fix a variety of problems.  You will learn how to pick up a row of stitches in a project, how to do duplicate stitch, how to replicate a pattern, etc.

MINI HOW TO: READING CHARTS AND SYMBOLS

Sat, Mar 31                                 1 to 4 pm                     Free

So many times I’ve heard from people who don’t want to work on a project because they don’t know how to read a chart or interpret the symbols used.  So this mini-tutorial will help with that.  You will learn the standard symbols used in both knitting and crocheting.  If you have a project you’d like to do, bring the pattern in and we will discuss how to read the chart or graph.
