Hi ,
I shared a post in the group "Кіно на призьбі" (a Ukrainian FB group for movie and TV show lovers) and it became a hit, with lots of likes and comments. The post was about my favorite TV shows in the genre of mystery/crime (what we call детектив in Ukrainian).
In case you like such TV shows, you can read the copy of the post on Facebook in Ukrainian or on Instagram (in English).
Mysteries are one of my favorite genres because they have a puzzle that tickles my curiosity, and the dialogues are usually tight and intense. If you're into this genre, have a look at the list - I hope you'll find something to enjoy.
A short version (without descriptions and impressions):
- C.B. Strike
- Shetland
- Bosch
- Broadchurch
- Luther
- Line of Duty
- The Fall
- Vera
Just so you know, "C.B. Strike" is comparatively shorter than the rest of the TV shows, so it's a good place to start if you want to try any of these TV series.
Although Stike has 4 seasons, each of them is only 2-4 episodes long. It's because each season is based on a separate novel by Robert Gilbraith, which means that the main characters (private detectives) are the same, but the cases are different. Apart from cases, there's a bit of a budding romance going on, and in the Cormoran Strike Discussion and Spoilers group, lots of people are preoccupied with the characters' personal lives 😉
Let me know if you've seen any of these TV shows (or are planning to). Also, if you know a great mystery series that wasn't in the list, let me know!
Stay tuned,
Tania.
PS: Glossary
- A detective is someone whose job is to discover what has happened in a crime or other situation and to find the people involved. Some detectives work in the police force and others work privately
- A sleuth is an old-fashioned word for a "detective" (сищик)
- A P.I. stands for a private investigator or a private detective, a person who can be hired by individuals or groups to undertake an investigation (приватний детектив).
