Jumping on the bandwagon?

Since the full-scale war in Ukraine started in February, quite a few Hollywood stars have discovered or admitted their Ukrainian origins. Some of them have been actively raising awareness about the situation here, raising humanitarian aid or promoting more military aid for the Ukrainian army.
Some names were familiar: Milla Jovovich, Mila Kunis, or Vera Farmiga.
But some Canadian actors came as a surprise, although their names should have given me some idea
Do you remember Lagertha from 'Vikings" TV series?
That's Katheryn Winnick.
Even though she was born in Canada, her first language was Ukrainian, and only at 8 years did she start speaking English. In one of the interviews she said that attending Ukrainian school on Saturdays "... gave me a sense of history and a sense of pride of being Ukrainian".
David Duchovny from "X-Files" and Tatiana Maslany from "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" are also from the families who came from Ukraine.

I have mixed feelings about this "sudden" discovery of their origins (at least, some of them). A phrase "jump on the bandwagon" come to mind, at least, in relation to some of them. |
👉 Or am I too cynical? What do you think?
