Hey Ho, Tenebrous Cult!
We're piecing this missive together bit by bit from Chicago; see?
And we just wanna share a couple quick things with ya, number one being the reason we're here:
Printers Row Lit Fest starts tomorrow! We'll be sharing table space with the Bizarro Writers Association, hanging with some old friends and meeting some new ones. If you're in the area, come say hi!
And number two...
Ri Stypula's "Songs for Solar-Powered Cowboys" is just one of many works of cosmic brilliance appearing in YOUR BODY IS A FEVER DREAM (out October 6th, order it now!), but Ri is also making their longform debut this month, courtesy of Merigold Independent.
Ri is here to tell you all about Squelch!
"Cade is unemployed, agoraphobic, and morbidly obsessed with the high number of suicides occurring around their apartment.
Thrown onto a path of unsettling discovery, loss, and the realization that their reality is not what it seems, Cade must find a way to cope with this shifting paradigm or risk losing their mind entirely.
What starts as a simple curiosity into the suicide of yet another neighbor, leads Cade to the troubling insight into what lives beneath their skin while their reality crumbles around them.
Squelch! came into being from the idea of being conscious of something moving under your skin, and wanting to take that concept and write something schlocky, a splatterpunk story experimenting with that idea and seeing what would come of it. What I ended up with after finishing, however, is something more than the plain and simple splatterpunk gorefest I originally envisioned. Instead, what unfolds is a story wrapped in a shell of brutality and weirdness, that beneath it stares into the depths of trauma and coping with things that cannot be changed, only lived with.
I'm also thrilled to have been able to curate a book with such killer art and design, with the work of Enoch (@oddoblivion) for the gnarly cover and stellar interior illustrations by Echo Echo (@echoechoillustrations) that I'm stoked to finally preview online in the week prior to release!
Pre-orders are up until release on the 21st of September anywhere you buy books, but might I suggest ordering from Asterism directly? Ebooks are in progress now as well for anyone who prefers to read digitally, so keep an eye out for those!
Thank you Tenebrous Cult for reading through this debut author's pitch, that's all from me for now!"
Lastly, while we're photo-bombing you, a massive hails n' horns to author Michael Bettendorf (TRVE CVLT, MIDWESTERN CHROME) who held down the Tenebrous table at One of Us Festival in Iowa last week:
Lots of enthusiastic Weird fiction readers were on hand and it sounds like the event was a blast. One of Us is the brainchild of Filthy Loot Press' Ira Rat, and we're hoping it continues to carve out a Weird niche across the Midwest for years to come.
We'll be back swinging next week, jetlagged I'm sure but ready to dive deep into the FEVER DREAM.
Hail Indie Publishing.
Hail New Weird Horror (+ More!)
Hail the Tenebrous Cult.
