Moving to the UAE series:
How to set up your phone
To snag a fresh SIM card at Dubai International Airport, you can follow these steps that'll have you connected in no time:
NEW: You are now able to also set up a yearly plan with your passport. I checked with Virgin yesterday who said you would just need to keep updating your passport as it is only valid for 30 days until you get your Emirates ID (Typical wait 1-2 months)
1. Touch down at the airport: As soon as you land at Dubai International Airport, breeze through immigration, grab your belongings, and get through customs.
2. Spot a mobile maestro: Head towards the arrivals area and keep an eye out for booths or shops run by big names in UAE's mobile services like Etisalat or du. You'll find these spots where you least expect them, right inside the airport.
3. Pick your card and game plan: Walk up to the counter of the mobile provider you fancy and ask about their SIM card choices. Their crew will walk you through plans, data options, and costs. Just pick what fits your needs.
4. Papers, please: Don't forget to show your passport to snag a SIM card. They'll need to photocopy it for their records, so make sure your passport is within arm's reach.
5. Fill in the blanks: The mobile crew will hand you forms to fill out. This is where you share your details, contact info, and the like. They'll sort out the registration according to local rules.
6. Pay the piper: Once you've got your SIM card picked and paperwork sorted, it's time to pay up for the plan you want. Cash or card usually work, depending on the mobile company.
7. Activate the magic: Their team will get your SIM card up and running. They'll pop it into your device, tweak settings, and make sure it's good to go.
8. Test the waters: Give your new SIM card a whirl by making a call, sending a text, or using data. If anything's wonky, just tap the shoulder of a mobile whiz to help you sort it out.
Keep in mind, the exact process might vary based on the mobile crew you're dealing with.
