Consulting and Training

If you’re interested in consulting or training engagements then don’t hesitate to reach out to me at inquiries@symplectomorphic.com.

Upcoming Courses

I’ll be hosting an abbreviated suite of remote courses this summer, https://events.eventzilla.net/e/principled-bayesian-modeling-with-stan-2138610063. The material will cover foundations and a few advanced modeling techniques, including my gaussian process module that I wasn’t able to offer last year.

Upcoming Workshops

If are interested in ecological modeling and happen to be in the greater Vancouver area later this month then consider attending the Symposium for Bayesian Modeling, https://temporalecology.org/bayes2024/. There is no cost to attend but please register to ensure a seat. I will be talking about the interplay between the scientific method and statistics and the benefits of interpretable models.

The symposium will also be followed by a two-day interactive workshop, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsumlpBV5ronkxg4RAHULfBkbRJZzlOsnl07pvZ0GmCfch7Q/viewform, that I am helping to organize. Space is limited so don’t delay in applying if you are interested!

Recent Writing

In the past few months I’ve been having more and more conversations about how to consistently model a consensus from the responses of multiple, potentially unreliable, reviewers. Ultimately these conversations nerd-snipped me into this relatively short piece where I cover the basics of general consensus modeling and demonstrate with some detailed examples for discrete responses.

I also took the opportunity to write about some useful interpretation and visualization techniques for working with Dirichlet density functions that might be of interest on their own.
