"You are not good enough!"
Feb 21, 2021 9:51 pm
Hi !
I hope you are all doing good and are staying safe wherever you are.
Apologies for sending this super late in the day - I've been away this weekend as I've been at my parents' house (still within the same district and within the SOPs, no worries).
In this issue, I wanted to share a little about imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome essentially refers to the thoughts and feelings of inadequacy or incompetence in your life where you believe that you are not as good as others think of you.
Personally, I've faced a lot of these thoughts in the past few years - probably mainly due to me putting a higher expectation on myself and the lack of self-confidence in my own skills and experiences that I have to offer.
Alhamdulillah, after a few years, and after talking and connecting with other people in my network, it's been more manageable. However, I can't really say that I have completely get rid of my imposter syndrome thoughts. But that's OK since I now have better control of my thoughts and how I react to these negative thoughts.
"You are not good enough!" | Imposter Syndrome
I recently posted a vlog up on my YouTube channel, where I talked about how I have been dealing with imposter syndrome, especially in the past couple of years.
Feel free to watch the video linked below, especially if you have had the "You are not good enough!" thoughts on your mind. I also shared some of the things that I do to help me cope or manage my imposter syndrome feelings, so hopefully, some of these might be useful for you!
If you have any story to share with your own imposter syndrome or if you would like to talk about it with someone, do reply and let me know! I'd love to hear your stories :)
Imposter Syndrome vs Dunning-Kruger Effect
I don't want to write too much on this, but the opposite of Imposter Syndrome is the Dunning-Kruger Effect. If imposter syndrome is you underestimating your value and worth, the Dunning-Kruger Effect is when you perform badly on something, but you overestimate your worth and performance.
With the Dunning-Kruger Effect, it's not just a matter of being overconfident (like some politicians who greatly overestimate their skills or competence) - but it's also the inability to really see their own shortcomings. You know the quote from Einstein that goes, "The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know?" Yeah, it's similar to that in a way.
This is a quick post on this topic, so you can have a read if you're interested to know more!
New blog post - January 2021 expenses update
On top of the video, I also managed to get a blog post out (although I aimed for once a week, that didn't really work out, oh well). I finally got back on tracking my expenses and sharing them up on the blog - so here's one for January!
That's all I want to share with you this time around - apologies again for sending this late at night. I hope you'd spend some time reading/watching the links above - and feel free to reply with your thoughts or stories! :)
Do stay safe and take care in all that you do. Until I see you again next time - stay awesome everyone! :)
Love,
Nazu xx
