An Update After 1+ Year, and the Next Step Forward.
Jun 12, 2023 2:42 pm
Hi ,
How are you? I'm honestly tired of starting a newsletter with an "It's been a while, hasn't it?". But as I go through the past few emails that were sent out in the last 2 years (there have been exactly 7 emails since July 2021), I realized that I started most of them with an apology.
A lot of things have changed, and a lot of things will be changing as I move on forward with life and the projects that I am working on at the moment. But I figured that you deserve one final update from my end before I officially end this #SayWhat email newsletter, a little over 4 years after I started it back in January 2019.
Yes, this #SayWhat newsletter is ending.
This email newsletter was started back in January 2019 during my Master's studies as a way for me to stay focused and motivated. The counselor I met at university suggested I find a way to keep writing and sharing my stories online to help me cope with the intensity of my graduate school journey.
We are almost at 2,000 subscribers, which is more than what I had initially expected for this personal email newsletter. The support you guys have given me over the years has helped me to stay inspired and gave me purpose in what I do.
Some of you have been with me since the start of this newsletter journey. Others have joined in over the years, either through my social media or through one of the many career workshops and talks that I have delivered over the past couple of years.
No matter who you are, and however you found this newsletter - I am so grateful for your support, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
A lot of things have changed.
The past two years have been full of life-changing moments, both ups and downs. I made some drastic changes to my life, and it's hard to properly say how things would look in the next couple of months or years.
- In August 2021, I released my first book, Your Best Self, in August 2021.
- A few months after that, in November 2021, I lost my mother-in-law.
- A week after her passing, we found out I was pregnant.
- In January 2022, I left my comfy job at Alice Smith School to try out something new.
- In May/June 2022, I had COVID-19 myself (and had to miss my meet & greet at the PBAKL 2022).
- In July 2022, I was promoted to Chief Mom Officer to a cute baby girl.
- A little over a month after my 2-months maternity leave, I decided to leave my full-time job to fully focus on my little girl. Yes, this very career-driven, workaholic person actually quit her job to be a stay-at-home mum. I am surprised by my decision too.
- And, finally, earlier this year, I officially launch my rebranded career coaching business called Kejar Kerjaya.
As of right now, I have been a fully stay-at-home Mum for the past 7 months or so, while running Kejar Kerjaya and also picking up side projects and gigs here and there (mainly those that allow me to work remotely and flexibly). I don't know how long I can keep this up (mainly because my current contract project is due to end in August), but we'll see how things go.
Come & follow Kejar Kerjaya moving forward.
Kejar Kerjaya will be my main focus (aside from my baby, of course) for the next foreseeable future. I am currently working on building the brand on social media (focusing on Twitter for now, with Instagram/LinkedIn/potentially Tiktok in the future).
And, as I officially end this #SayWhat newsletter, I will automatically be moving all of you over to the new Kejar Kerjaya email newsletter (that will hopefully be starting next week).
Similar to how this #SayWhat newsletter has been, the Kejar Kerjaya email newsletter will share tips and tricks related to job searching, career development, and personal growth. However, unlike this personal one, it will be a little more formal in the sense that it is an official business email newsletter. But, fret not, it will still be written by me personally (at least for now, as it is still a one-man show).
If you do not wish to subscribe to the new Kejar Kerjaya email newsletter, please either email me directly to opt out, or you may also unsubscribe from the newsletter later on if you wish to.
Thank you, and farewell (for now).
I want to thank you all again for all the support and love for this #SayWhat newsletter for the past 4+ years (despite my being idle for the last 2 years or so). It has been my pleasure to write to you and to share my stories and thoughts on various topics and issues.
I look forward to seeing you all again through a different lens soon, and looking forward to hearing your feedback and thoughts on Kejar Kerjaya as I build the brand to (hopefully) bigger grounds.
As one last request: For those of you who have been reading this email from start to finish, or have been consistently following this newsletter (or even just me on social media), I would love to hear some thoughts from you about what you liked most about this newsletter and what you hope to see in the new Kejar Kerjaya newsletter. Do reply to this email and let me know, I'd love to hear from you!
Until then - stay awesome, take care, and have a good week ahead everyone.
Yours truly,
Nazu xx
