Dear friends,
We'll be "at home to visitors" from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday December 6. If you want to let us know you're coming, please do, or just show up!
Arrive at 6:30 for candle-lighting* and dinner (advance notice appreciated so we can be sure we have food that you can eat), or after 7 to just hang out. Kids of all ages are very welcome before 8:30, when Kit goes to bed. Quiet adult chill time continues until 10 or whenever we turf you out.
* We generally welcome Shabbat just before dinner with quick blessings over candles, grape juice, and challah. You're welcome to join us or sit it out, whatever's most comfortable for you. We're happy to explain how it goes and/or say the blessings in English if that helps you feel included.
If you can't make it on the 6th, maybe you can join us on one or more of these upcoming dates:
December 20
December 27 (with special guest Emmy! and happy almost-birthday to Kit! and Hanukkah!)
January 10
January 31

My friend Sonia recently linked to several articles (all of which I recommend) that touch on how crucial it is to be building intentional, mutually supportive community right now. As I read them, it felt really good to think of our open-house evenings in that light. These are social events, not overtly activist ones, but as Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha's essay says, sometimes disability justice looks like making someone a pot of soup. Just by sitting around the table and getting to know one another, we make something beautiful and important happen that sustains us through hard work and hard times. Thank you for being part of that.

The boring details:
- Our apartment is up a steep flight of stairs, and has a cat in residence.
- We're more than happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions we can, but cross-contamination of allergens may happen in our kitchen. We never mind you bringing your own food if that's what's safest for you.
- If you'd like to bring someone who hasn't been directly invited, please check in advance.
- Please take a rapid test no more than 12 hours before coming over. At least one member of our family will do likewise. We'll also have a high-quality air purifier running, and windows open if weather permits. If you'd prefer more stringent covid precautions, please let us know.
Address: 1669 President St #2, Brooklyn NY 11213. Call or text me at 646-287-2437 if you get lost.
See you soon!
Cheers,
Ash on behalf of Chris, Josh, Kit, and Alex-the-cat
