Dear friends,
I spent the weekend surrounded by wonderful people, and my heart is full. One night I tried to explain how devastating it's been to see my in-person social circle demolished by the pandemic, and how hard it's been to rebuild it. We're no longer drawn together by things like working in Manhattan or going out to readings at KGB, and it gets harder and harder to remember how to leave the house. Knowing that community is the antidote to fascism doesn't make it any easier to overcome the exhaustion of living under oppression. I love online communities and I think they're vital! But seeing so many of my friends this weekend, laughing and weeping and hugging as the mood struck us, reminded me of why getting together in person is so, so worth doing.
I'd love to know, especially if you haven't come to one of our dinners in a while or at all: What would make our events magnetic and unmissable for you? What obstacles are in the way of you joining us, and how can we clear your path? Please do write back and tell me.
I can offer one tasty lure for this Friday: My amazing friend Stephanie will be there, visiting from Minnesota. She's a writer and a conrunner and a crafter and a musician, a dear friend of mine for ten years, and I'd love for you to meet her. With her at the table — and you, I hope — a good time is guaranteed.
If you can't make it this time, maybe you can join us on one or more of these upcoming dates:
April 10 (with special guest Emmy!)
May 8
Sunday daytime June 14 (Ash's birthday party!)
July 31
August 28
October 30 (Halloween party!)
December 4 (Hanukkah party!)
Sunday daytime December 27 (Kit's birthday party, with special guest Emmy!)
Mark your calendars now, and join us when you can. We would really love to see you.

The gist:
We'll be "at home to visitors" from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday March 27. If you want to let us know you're coming, please do, or just show up!
Arrive at 6:30 for candle-lighting and dinner (advance notice appreciated so we can be sure we have food that you can eat), or after 7 to just hang out. Kids of all ages are very welcome before 8:30, when Kit goes to bed. Quiet adult chill time continues until 10 or whenever we turf you out.
~~~
The boring details:
- Our apartment is up a steep flight of stairs, and has a cat in residence.
- Ash has scent allergies, so please don't wear strong perfume or cologne.
- We're more than happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions we can, but cross-contamination of allergens may happen in our kitchen. We never mind you bringing your own food if that's what's safest for you.
- If you'd like to bring someone who hasn't been directly invited, please check in advance.
- Please take a rapid test at least 12 hours before coming over. At least one member of our family will do likewise. We'll also have a high-quality air purifier running, and windows open if weather permits. If you'd prefer more stringent covid precautions, please let us know.
Address: 1669 President St #2, Brooklyn NY 11213. Call or text me at 646-287-2437 if you get lost.
See you soon!
Cheers,
Ash on behalf of Chris, Josh, Kit, and Alex-the-cat
