SYAO Creativity, the week of January 13, 2024
Jan 13, 2025 4:54 pm
Hello, everyone!
Happy Monday! Here's the latest edition of SYAO Creativity. Let's see what's going on in our creative world this week!
STITCH (What I've been working on)
I've been working on a bunch of things (which is typical!). I'm enjoying the process of making leg warmers. I'll be showing how to make these as the first Really Clear project this year. The class begins next week. One of the leg warmers is finished, but with this weather, I need to get the second one done, so I'm not lopsided!
If you quilt, keep reading!
I'm also working on the Block of the Month, which begins this Saturday! (There's some kind of time warp in the world.) Be sure to get signed up soon!
I've shown this block before, but here it is again as a reminder! It's 20 inches square! I loved making it! It's so cheerful. There'll be 11 more.
YOUR (What you've been working on)
Sophia made her second project--a baby bonnet that had all kinds of trick things--I-cord, knitting in the round, decreases, and more! It was a huge jump from her first project, a giant garter-stitch scarf, but she did it well! Apparently her cat Theo wasn't thrilled to be a model, but tolerated a photo. Thank you, Theo, for your service. You're beautiful, and we all understand what it's like to do something you don't want to do.
ART (Inspired by art or nature)
I don't have much time for anything but the store at this time of year (thank you, everyone, for keeping me busy! I'm so grateful!), but I ran across a 2-minute YouTube tutorial from a woman named Andrea Nelson about creating this polar bear. So I tried it. I kept pausing the video because I was much slower than she was, and it took maybe 15 or 20 minutes? But it turned out super cute!
I had a good time making the scarf more authentic looking than the original. Heh. How did I do that? I first made a red, plain scarf. Then I chose a shade darker, and drew a bunch of messy V's.
I love All the Crafts!
OUT (What's out on the shelves in the shop)
If you've read the newsletter, you know that at the retreat, we're going to zoom with designer Seth Apter (who is nice and fun and does such cool fabrics, not to mention other things!).
Here are a couple of his fabrics that I have in the shop. I expect to have more come fall, so be on the lookout!
Place a deposit for the retreat here.
As always, make an appointment to shop or browse, or just to show off your stuff! I can't wait to see you!
