Hello again, friends!

You're all making the process of closing a pleasure. It’s been so good to see everyone--like the most wonderful reunion I've ever attended. I never expected this much upbeat happiness, and I love it! (I've been assured over and over that retirement is amazing.)

Before I go on with this week's specials, I want to talk about something important. A few of you have said you feel a little bad being a vulture. Well—circle right around me, and let me say this:

I wouldn’t have been in business without you, and I won’t be able to retire without you either. Because of your support during this process, I’ve been able to set aside enough for living expenses until Social Security kicks in, and to pay off two credit cards that haunted me for over 20 years. That feels remarkable. I haven’t felt this light in my entire adult life.

Next up: the government loan from 2020. I’m still working on that one, but it’s now feeling manageable either way. (Fun fact: They gave me until age 90 to finish it!)

There’s one more thing that you've been helping with, which I hadn’t planned to talk about. I need to today, however.

Quietly, for the past six years, every time I sold a knitting or quilting pattern, all of the money went to help my friend Joy. You might remember from my asks a few years ago that she had a bone-marrow transplant—six years ago! She’s made it past the 5-year danger mark and is statistically likely to live at least another ten years. And truly, the world is better for that. She's a kind and fun person.

But despite her best efforts, she still hasn’t found full-time work with health insurance. Her part-time hours were cut this summer, and things got especially tight. Because of the boost in sales from closing, I was able to send enough to keep her from being evicted—two months in a row. That felt great.

She just started another GoFundMe [link here]. to help her get a few months ahead so she has the breathing room to plan next steps. She also has an interview for a second part-time job.

She also needs rent money for today—otherwise, her apartment complex will literally toss her things. I won’t be able to keep helping at this level much longer, but I’ll cover the rest of this month’s rent if needed.

If you’re able to contribute even $20, it would mean a lot. You can send long-term help via the GoFundMe link above, or short-term help through PayPal: @joychristin. If you’d rather write a check or have cash, bring it by the shop. You can make it out to me, and I’ll transfer it to her immediately, or to her, and I'll mail it to her.

I’ve run this shop out of love. And I have truly loved it (and still do). But having money come in right now is helping in ways I didn’t expect, and am particularly grateful for.

So the moral of the story is, please—come in! Be a vulture! I’m a fan of all birds.

Now on to the fun stuff!!

The store will close for good on August 30. I'll keep designing, though, and sending out emails, so you haven't heard the last of me!!

P. S. Quick reminder that I have a Portuguese knitting class coming up on August 14. Learn how to knit by flicking your thumb! It gives you another set of tools in that tool kit.

And there's a fun cowl-knitting class this week.

And the spring 2026 retreat is coming for sure! Be sure to sign up ASAP, so that I know which day we're starting. (That part is up in the air.)

See everything under the "Classes" tab at stitchyourartout.com.

P. P. S. I still have cute giveaway bags! Come by and pick one up!!
