SYAO Creativity, the week of November 25, 2024
Nov 25, 2024 2:21 pm
Hello, everyone!
Happy Monday! Here's the latest edition of SYAO Creativity. Let's see what's going on in our creative world this week! A quick note that we'll close early on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons so that I can prepare for Thanksgiving with my family.
STITCH (What I've been working on)
I had a knee that went through on some jeans, so I tried out some visible mending. It's all the rage, you know. (Nothing like feeling 25 years old again!) To do this, I cut even more holes (square shaped), and then to be able to sew on the leg, I opened the seam on the side. I used duck cloth behind the Australian fabric to strengthen it, and then I sewed around the squares with a satin stitch and red thread. I let it look messy and rumpled on purpose, because I knew I would have wanted it that way at age 25. It's a horrible sewing job--but that was the point. It's fun to wear these! Come to think of it, I could even make them into "cut offs" when summer hits. Welcome back to the '70s.
YOUR (What you've been working on)
Jennifer made this cozy sweater for her daughter (who used to be about 10 when she came into the shop with her mother, but now has apparently graduated from college). It's the classic Einstein Coat. (The book it's from, The Knitting Experience, book 1, is out of print, but you can still get it online.)
ART (Inspired by art or nature)
I took this about a week and a half ago. I think it'll be the last flower photo of the season.
OUT (What's out on the shelves in the shop)
Love this Tula Pink fabric that just arrived!! I think I'm going to use it for next year's block of the month. Need to experiment with the blocks. I have big plans for this quilt. (That's foreshadowing.) More info coming soon!
As always, make an appointment to shop or browse, or just to show off your stuff! I can't wait to see you!
