SYAO Creativity, the week of July 10, 2022
Jul 10, 2022 4:06 pm
Hello, everyone!
Here's the latest edition of SYAO Creativity. Arts Fest is coming up this week, so let's pull out all the creative stops!
STITCH (What I've been working on)
Block of the Month is this coming week, and I'm ready to go with the block! I added a darker purple along with the planned lighter purple. I think it gives the block a little more depth. I'm super happy with this one!
YOUR (What you've been working on)
This is so beautiful. Judi used a photograph she took of a Great Blue Heron, and then she and I spent a while choosing all the fabrics. It made me happy to see the finished quilt!
ART (Inspired by art or nature)
You have to go see this exhibit that combines math and fiber. It's at the Art Museum at Juanita College, and it's worth a bit of a drive if you don't live in Huntingdon. (Plus then you can stop at Stone Town Tavern and get the world's best spring rolls!) There were roughly 20 types of fiber arts represented in this display--knitting, quilting, cross stitch, clay, and on and on. You can read more about it here. The exhibit will travel to Boston and then to North Carolina after it leaves PA.
The quilt was masterful. (It's extra fun that it has a bit of knitting on it.)
I have to admit that I have a particular fondness for this adorable tortoise that's part of the exhibit. My customer Kim made it from yarn in the shop. Each toenail was a little baby I-cord. (The kite that the tortoise is flying is not pictured here because I was so enthralled with the tortoise.)
Here's more info about the tortoise.
You have to go see this exhibit. Seriously.
Museum summer hours are here. You might want to check ahead, however.
OUT (What's out on the shelves in the shop)
I just got in a number of the prints from Snow Leopard Designs' Treasure Island. You might know the designer: It's Philip Jacobs, from the Kaffe Fassett Collective. Most people who buy his prints think that Kaffe designed them. Philip is a masterful designer in his own right, however. And this collection is so much fun.
Here are just a few of the pieces I have in the shop:
These jellyfish!
I have more! Come see them!
As always, make an appointment to shop or browse, or just to show off your stuff! I can't wait to see you!
