As the sun shines brighter and the temperatures begin to rise here in Dubai, I hope this email finds you well. It's hard to believe that we're already in the midst of April—in my mind we are still somewhere in March!
We are almost at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which traditionally meant a ban on eating and drinking in public here in Dubai. But things have changed a lot in the last few years, and things have felt quite normal—cafes open as usual, people dining in outdoor seating.
Did you know that the start and end of Ramadan are determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, which marks the beginning and end of each lunar month?
In order to accurately determine the start and end of Ramadan, a Moon Sighting Committee is established in many countries, including the UAE. Once the committee members have observed and confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon, they announce the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid al-Fitr to the public. Eid Mubarak in advance to my Muslim friends 😊
