Hi Readers!

The day has arrived! A Home Among the Snow Gums released on May 3 and boy-oh-boy did it go well. My publisher emailed to let me know it flew off the shelves and hit No 5 on the hot sellers list in Australia. And it's getting another print run to meet with demand, so there'll be more stock coming.

SO THRILLED

If you haven't read it yet, you can ask your library to order it in (print, audio or ebook) and it was in the Target and Big W catalogs this month so they'll have it in store or online.

WHAT ARE READERS SAYING?

I had a little sticky online in the usual review places (Goodreads, Amazon, Kobo, Apple's Ibooks, Booktopia) and here's a little sample:

SO WHAT ELSE HAS BEEN HAPPENING?

May kicked off for me in Tamworth at the HQ Fiction & Better Reading's Love Comes to Town event. Interviews on ABC Country Radio, and for Tamworth's Northern Leader newspaper, there was trivia and assorted games, and it was a great night. Thanks to Tamworth for coming out in droves and supporting us! We popped into the Tamworth Library to sign books, and took a visit out to the campdraft (which was great for me, since my new book is set around a campdraft).

I'm ending May at the inaugural Rachael Johns Book Club reader retreat in Hahndorf, South Australia (in fact I'm typing this at Gate 28 at the Brisbane Domestic Airport waiting for my plane to start boarding). I'll try remember to take some photos while I'm there. 100 voracious readers, a handful of authors, and a lot of book talk. I can't wait.

AND WHAT IS MY PESKY WORK-IN-PROGRESS MANUSCRIPT UP TO?

Last week (hurray) I sent off the first draft of my 2024 rural drama which has the working title A Track Winding Back. (It will be interesting to see if that ends up being the title. So far I have only got my way with The Vet from Snowy River!) It was a big job getting it in on time - luckily the local Writers Centre I'm a member of was having a weekend "write in" event, so that spurred me on to crank out about 15000 over four days (exhausting!) and hitting "send" on that email to the publisher Felt So Good. The story is set on a fossil dig in Western Queensland where dinosaurs are found.

AUDIO BOOK PROMO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED

The team at Kobo in conjunction with Harper Collins have out the audio book of both The Vet from Snowy River and A Town Like Clarence on sale (for the month of May only) for $5.99 each, which is quite a big saving. (Audiobooks are expensive to produce). Click here for a link.

CHITCHAT AND STUFF

  • My Christmas story for the 2023 anthology with Pamela Cook, Penelope Janu, Alissa Callen and Lily Malone has had a cover reveal! Isn't it pretty? I'll talk more about it closer to October when it will be out in book stores across Australia and New Zealand, but in the mean time if you're a keen Christmas story lover, the buy link is here to preorder:

  • I have some library talks coming up if you're in the South East Queensland area kicking off in June, at ASHGROVE, KENMORE, BRIBIE ISLAND and REDLANDS

Until next time,
