Static & Blur’s Staff Picks – July 27, 2023

Jul 27, 2023 6:01 pm

We cover a lot of shows in the Bay Area. Sometimes our photographers and writers find themselves at two, or even three shows in the same night. And yet, we still get excited about live music. And experience real FOMO when we can't be at all the shows we want to be. Here are some upcoming ones we recommend...

Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa

Fri 7/28 through Sun 7/30

Last year, Blue Note Napa launched the Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa with a great lineup including Maxwell, Black Star, Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper, and more. The festival returns this year with an even more incredible line up featuring Mary J. Blige, Nas, Chance the Rapper, Gary Clark Jr., and many, many more. As an added bonus, comedy king Dave Chappelle will be hosting the event! Definitely one of this week’s highlights. The fest will take place at the Silverado Resort in Napa; a handful of tickets are still available. – MF

Taylor Swift

Fri 7/28 and Sat 7/29

Taylor Swift, aka the woman who broke Ticketmaster, is bringing her incredibly gimongous Eras Tour to Levi’s Stadium. The show is guaranteed to be the highlight for not just die-hard Swifties, but for everyone. As if Swift wasn’t enough of a draw, mega-band HAIM is support for these shows. Tickets are definitely sold out, so if you happen to score some, GO, GO, GO! - MF

Petaluma Music Festival

I can’t make the 16th Annual Petaluma Music Festival this Saturday, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go. I’ve enjoyed seeing all of these headliners at other venues around the Bay: Karl Denison’s Tiny Universe, The English Beat, The Brothers Comatose, and Chuck Prophet & The Mission Express. Other bands I’ve seen and recommend you check out are Stroke 9, San Geronimo, and One Armed Joey. The festival is at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma. 11:30am to 9:30pm. Tickets are $55-$169. – WW

Maxwell with the San Francisco Symphony

Fri 8/4 and Sat 8/5

Sigur Rós With Wordless Music Orchestra

Sat 8/26

What’s better than your favorite Icelandic trance-like band performing at an outdoor amphitheater? That same band with an awesome orchestra, that’s what. At the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. – JB
