Three Shows You Missed [And One You Shouldn’t]

Apr 24, 2026 6:37 pm

Hiya,

Another week, another run of shows. Some nostalgic. Some intimate. Some straight-up surreal. If you weren’t there, well . . . we were.

The Format & Phantom Planet @ The Castro Theatre

Photos & words by Viviana Mendoza

“Some nights just mean more. This was one of them.”

A sold-out Castro Theatre, a crowd full of shared history, and two bands that still hit just as hard years later. From crowd-surfing chaos to quiet, emotional sing-alongs. This one had everything.

Read Viviana's review. See her photos.

Maya Hawke @ The Chapel SF

“More like a living room gathering than a standard concert.”

Stripped back, acoustic, and deeply personal. Maya Hawke turned The Chapel into something intimate and warm, where every lyric felt close enough to touch.

See what Petyr saw.

Oklou @ The Warfield

Photos & words by Roy Scopazzi

“A hazy, dreamlike set where silhouettes and sound blurred together.”

Fog, soft light, and abstract visuals turned the Warfield into something otherworldly. A show that felt more like drifting than watching.

This Week in Bay Area Music History

One of the things we love to do is look back at what happened this week in Bay Area music history. Always too much to mention, but these are two historic shows we wish we could have seen (and photographed):

In a historic performance, Johnny Cash played the Carousel Ballroom (at 10 Van Ness and Market Street) on April 24th, 1968.

In 2013, Prince played to a sold out DNA Lounge on April 23rd and 24th.
