What would I do if I had no fear?

Kyle Peyton sent me the craziest speedgolf video I've ever seen (and believe me, I've seen a lot).

👉 Lachlan Earnshaw - Golf but it's just a race

No speedgolfer in their right mind would ever attempt this... unless they were from Australia.

Lachlan Earnshaw was joined by nine... co-conspirators? Hapless buddies? Unsuspecting victims? Fellow endurance junkies?

Whatever they were, they agreed to play 18 holes with a simultaneous start. Strokes didn't count. Fastest finish was the winner. This is Steve Vancil's nightmare fuel.

It reminded me of the 5-man 'time trial' at the Irish Speedgolf Open. One thing I didn't have on my 2026 speedgolf bingo card was "Rob Hogan getting one-upped in the pursuit of extreme speedgolf".

Location: Marrickville Golf Course, suburbs of Sydney.

Rules:

• Take as many clubs and balls as you want
• Helmets and safety glasses required
• If you lose a ball, you have to restart the hole
• No running on the green
• Fastest finish wins. Strokes don't matter.
• Last place has to swim in a grody pond 🤮

Adam, are you saying simultaneous-start chaos golf is better than traditional speedgolf?

No, I'm saying this video was hilarious and you should consider watching it.

What happens when someone gets seriously injured because ten people are hitting balls simultaneously? Are you comfortable promoting something that could give speedgolf a black eye (literally)?

I think consenting adults should be allowed to do mildly-dangerous things for my entertainment. Also, I feel like I already mentioned this: they were wearing helmets.

We are trying to present speedgolf as a legitimate variant of golf. How does featuring a "golf demolition derby" help us earn mainstream respect? Aren't you undermining that by promoting what's basically a fraternity stunt?

Look, speedgolf has always toed the line between sport and spectacle. If you never cross the line, you're not trying hard enough.

In a sport that's still fighting for oxygen in the attention economy, I'll take ten Aussies in safety glasses over another think piece about 'slow play'.

Seeing that this competition required safety glasses and helmets, does this call into question whether Rob Hogan acted irresponsibly by NOT having any safety precautions at the Irish Open Time Trial?

In Rob's defense, the players in the Irish Open Time Trial were much better golfers.

Final question: Are you just featuring this because you know controversy drives clicks and you needed content for Friday's newsletter?
