Keep these words and phrases ready to use in your ‘dictionary’, it would be appreciated if you use them, but don’t worry if you forget! Remember that your tone of voice, volume, and body language also ‘speak’ and if you sound polite, that would be enough.

Por favor - Please

Gracias - Thank you

Muchas gracias - Thank you very much

De nada / No hay de qué - You’re welcome

Con permiso / Perdón - Excuse me (generally used when you want to get past someone or politely leave the room)

Disculpa - Excuse me (informal) (when you want to get someone’s attention)

Disculpe - Excuse me (formal) (when you want to get someone’s attention)

Lo siento / Perdón - I’m sorry (generally used when you made a mistake or accidentally bothered someone)

Mini-challenge: Pretend you are at a coffee shop and would like a drink, I’d say something like this: 

‘¿Me da un café, por favor?’  And once I have it, I’d say ‘Muchas gracias’.
