MARRIAGE IN NIGERIA IS A CHILD ADOPTION

(Why You Must Stop Telling Men to Go & Get Married)

imageMarriage in Nigeria is for women at the detriment of men until a man is frustrated about taking care of an orphan and her family and decides to take his freedom. Oh, you did not understand it? I will explain what it means.

For a man to be ready for marriage in Nigeria, he must be financially stable enough to become a parent to a grown-up woman, who despite maybe earning more money than him, considers it taboo to help him financially if he goes broke.

A man is only considered ready for marriage in Nigeria if he is financially stable enough to continue to provide for the needs of a woman that will never support him financially, without any complaints. If you are not ready to do this, then forget marriage.

No amount of grammar seems to be enough to change this trend as the women quote their scriptures to support it. “A man that cannot provide for his family is worse than an infidel” they will quote when a man is temporarily broke and proposes marriage.

There is no negotiating it in Nigeria; a man is either financially stable or is not ready for marriage. While this may not be the reality that a lot of Nigerian men want, especially as they have to pay exorbitant fees as bride price in some parts of the country where the majority of people live below one dollar daily, it is a reality that they must learn to live with.

Many parents in Nigeria do not train their daughters to be financially stable and help a man; many of them are educated to the university level, and even get a job only to attract men that are rich enough to provide for their needs.

In many churches in Nigeria, there are good men that are ready for marriage, but the women in these churches ignore them and pray for husbands. These women do not consider a man good for a husband unless he is rich enough to raise another woman like a child.

With this seemly unchangeable situation of grown-up women, some of whom are employed and earn more than their men, becoming proud & scriptures-backed parasites to men, I keep wondering why any sane person advises a man in Nigeria that does not earn enough to rent an apartment of his own to get married. It does not make any sense!

Instead of putting marriage pressure on an average man in Nigeria, who you think is old enough for it, help him to make more money! After helping him to make enough money to take care of himself and a woman who will never support him financially even if she is richer, then you can advise him to get married & you will be right to do so.

Putting marriage pressure on a man that can hardly take care of his own needs shows you hate him; it is a setup for a failed life! If you love him, help him to become financially stable. To many Nigerian women, helping a man financially is to make him become a useless man. So, it is wise for a man in Nigeria to make adequate financial plans to take care of himself & his family before getting married.

You can only advise a broke man in Nigeria to get married if you can find him a woman that is willing to support him financially whenever he is broke without making any fuse off it. Unless you can do that, putting marriage pressure on a broke man in Nigeria is mockery – you hate him. STOP IT!
